Oooh, me likey! Thanks!
I’m going to have trouble coming up with only 15, but in the interim let me note how fucking fantastic this subset of albums is:
Some albums not mentioned previously that I’d put in my Top 15:
Son Volt - Trace
Sigur Rós - Ágætis byrjun (An album of the 2000s released in 1999)
Smoking Popes - Destination Failure
Whiskeytown - Faithless Street
Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies (IMMA GONNA LET YOU FINISH, BUT THIS IS GREATEST EP OF ALL TIME!)
Smashing Pumpkins - Adore (so very underrated)
REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi (last great effort for the band)
Duplicates include Siamese Dream, Exile in Guyville, Kerosene Hat, In Utero, Ok Computer, Automatic for the People, Loveless, Mellon Collie
I agree with you. It’s one of their best albums, but a lot of people at the time were bad-mouthing it for not being another Melon Collie and for the whole kerfuffle about Jimmy Chamberlin getting fired. Still, *Perfect *and Appels + Oranjes are two of my favorite songs of all time.
Why, thank you, sir! (I think you’re a “sir” - no offense intended if not!)
I am, and you’re welcome!
1.Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
2.Radiohead - OK Computer
3. Sonic Youth - Dirty
4. Nick Cave - Let Love In (but I have at least four to choose from)
Dammit, keep losing Internet…will finish later
Did you check out the ginormous reissue that came out a couple weeks ago? I bought it and it’s got some pretty neat stuff on it. Adore has always been one of my favorite Pumpkins albums, probably my second favorite behind Siamese Dream, but it’s really hard to rank, as those first four albums are pretty much unassailable. SD will always be the perfect Pumpkins album for me, though. It seems that Adore has been getting more and more its fair due over the last few years.
Love them all but I’ve been relistening to #1 a lot lately.
Radiohead, OK Computer
Green Day - Dookie
Eric Johnson: Ah! Via Musicom
Sugar - Copper Blue
Bad Religion - Stranger than Fiction
Joe Satriani - Self-Titled
Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet
Yes - The Ladder
Steve Stevens - Flamenco A Go-Go
Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters - There Is Nothing Left to Lose
Marc Bonilla - EE Ticket
Deep Purple - Purpendicular
Deep Purple - Abandon
Steve Morse - Coast to Coast
A lot of my faves have been mentioned and I’m too lazy to put together a full list. But I will mention one that hasn’t been mentioned: Moby - Play.
I have not heard of this yet. Now I have to look for it.
I am so. Fucking. Sad. That the station that cropped up in Cleveland last year that would play a ton of 90s music is now gone. What an awesome decade for music!!
It’s an amazing album…I think it’s my overall favorite of the 90’s.
This was very difficult.
Never heard of them before, just listened on spotify, think I may need to buy
Saw JA supporting The fields of the Nephilim at the Brixton Academy waaaaayy back , this is another album that should make the list.
No shit , and looking through this thread is going to lead to a nostalgic few plays list being made up for aeroplane time.
Some of these were already mentioned, but some I guess are a little bit more obscure.
In alphabetical order:
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low-End Theory
Aphex Twin - The Richard D. James Album
Björk - Post
DJ Shadow - …Endtroducing
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Laika - Sounds of the Satellites
Manu Chao - Clandestino
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Me, Mom and Morgentaler - Shiva Space Machine
PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
Portishead - Dummy
R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
Tricky - Maxinquaye
It overlaps with mine. Thank you for making my list for me, Finagle.
(Though I’d scoot Living With Ghosts up to the top and substitute Too Long in the Wasteland, by James McMurtry and XO, by Elliott Smith for, …something or other.)
Lots of mine have been mentioned but I’ll add these.
Morphine-Cure for Pain and Yes. Hard to choose between these two. Both are excellent.
Soul Coughing-Ruby Vroom, Irresistible Bliss and El Oso could all make the list but I would probably go with Irresistible Bliss.
Marcy Playground-Marcy Playground and Shapeshifter. They get labeled as one hit wonders for “Sex and Candy” but their first two albums are great.
I almost added El Oso to my list. I haven’t heard the others. I foresee a lot of music acquisition in my near future.
