Your Wedding Cake Traditions

What kind of wedding cake did you have?
Did you save the first tier for your first anniversary?
Did you put a slice under your pillow for sweet dreams?

I had marble cake (how boring is that) I did save the first tier for my first anniversary. It tasted awful! I guess I didn’t preserve it very well.

I did put a slice under my pillow for sweet dreams.

I made my own cake. 15 boxes of betty crocker french vanilla with a third of the batter left white and a third dyed pink and a third dyed purple and all of it marbled through all the tiers.

We did eat the top tier on our anniversary. We shared it with friends and they said that after eating our cake the tradition made much more sense. It tasted as good and was as moist as it did our wedding day.

No cake under the pillow though.

Tanookie how long did you let your cake bake for? How many tiers did it have?

I had a Grooms cake also. It was German chocolate.

I’m glad you posted this, for I am interested in such responses as well… I am to wed in three weeks.

We, however, have decided against a cake

For a short time we considered cup-cakes stacked on towers or such, but decided to go with a dessert tray instead. (Will we be excommunicated and scorned for all eternity?) Sorry to slip off the subject, no HJ intended.

…We now take you to our regularly scheduled broadcast already in progress…

I had 5 tiers and baked each one according to the toothpick test. (smaller tiers take less time than larger ones)

We had far more cake than we needed but I wanted to show off  (pictures are on our website)

I love the cupcake idea. I’ve seen it done quite beautifully especially when the trays are decorated with fresh flowers!

I doubt you will be scorned for all eternity dinoboy  The marriage is not determined by the cake served (or in your case not served)!

We had PRECIOUS MOMENTS figurines on top of our cake.

If I ever get married again I plan on putting fresh flowers as my topper and not the traditional bride and groom figurines. Now that I am older I think it looks kinda silly

I put little wedding rings on top of my cake… all the toppers looked silly to us.

Since we eloped, we didn’t have a cake. But if we had, there would have been chocolate somewhere, and I wouldn’t have bothered to save any.

We had a 3-level tiered cake with white frosting and curly-qs of white chocolate around the edges. The bottom and top layers were white cake with lemon filling and the middle layer was chocolate cake with mocha filling. It was adorned with fresh flowers that matched the flowers on the umbrella and huppah poles and the attendants’ bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. We had no ornaments on the top, but a small Danish flag (representing him) and American flag (me) were standing alongside it.

Here’s a close-up picture of just the cake (though it doesn’t show the flags), and one with us in it that does show the flags and also my bouquet laying in front of it, but it’s not a very clear scan, unfortunately.

We did save the top tier for our 1-year anniversary. We shared it with friends (Scotticher, Johnny L.A., cadolphin and Rico) for my birthday which is the day before our anniversary. It was as absolutely mouth-wateringly delicious as the day of our wedding.

No groom’s cake. However, for those who might not like cake, we also had 2 kinds of creme broulee (banana’s foster and chocolate caramel).

No cake under the pillow (yuk!). We had sweet dreams anyway!

That’s a very pretty cake Shayna

The couple is cute too in the second picture btw - what you can see of them
