He already said so in the very next post. ![]()
don’t they eat chicken feet in South Carolina?
Beats me. Southern folk are. . .odd.
The foods I eat “wrong”:
I like soggy French fries.
Chewy bacon is much better than crispy.
I like when sub sandwiches have sat in the fridge for a day.
Chewy reheated pizza crust.
I remember squirrel stew being decent. Snapping turtle was very good; different parts of the animal had distinct tastes and textures. We all really liked it, and Mom said she’d cook it if we’d clean it. They were a major pain to clean, so we only had it once.
Never had snapping turtle, though I have heard it makes good soup. But your post reminded me of a now long-gone restaurant in Detroit called the Turtle Soup Inn. I was first introduced by an old girlfriend who lived in Hamtramck, an enclave in Detroit that used to be primarily Polish immigrants. She introduced me to some great Polish restaurants in the area.
When you first walked into the place you’d see framed newspaper reviews saying how good the turtle soup was. And it was magnificent. This was no watery soup-- it was a thick chowder, full of chopped up turtle meat, with vegetables like corn and peas mixed in. “A hearty soup, fit for Arctic explorers” one of the reviews read. The taste of the meat was sort of mild, like dark meat chicken or maybe pork, but not exactly; and it had a certain ‘chew’ to it, almost like chopped clams.
The soup was rumored to have medicinal qualities. And whenever I felt a cold or something coming on, I’d pick up a quart of it to go and it did seem to ward off the nasties. Actually, for a good long time, I’d pick up a quart to go maybe every couple weeks, in sickness and in health-- it was that good.
145F? You whimps! Taste this:
Ah, yes! The famous Islamistic Republic of Japan. My ninjas, OTOH, I guess are rather of the kind to tell me that Mett has already been mentioned in this thread. Never mind, it bears repeating and demands second servings.
You are late to the raw pork party, my friend ![]()
They are extra sneaky, while all the time the entire world thought Japan was Shinto with some Buddhism they were secretly practicing Islam!
