I voted other – as I’d be quite interested to see Not Only…But Also, That was the Week That Was, At Last the 1948 Show, and loads others not listed on the poll as well as have a chance to speak to the people who wrote and worked on those programmes.

I voted “Green Acres” because not only was the cast so strong front to back, but there’s so much joy in their performances that you got the feeling just hanging around them would fun. Plus imagine the stories Eddie Albert, Eva Gabor, and Pat Buttram could tell.

In the 90s a friend played piano at the First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills. The casts of all those semi-overlapping shows attended regularly.

Brooks created the premise of the show and the characters. He also co-wrote three episodes. His involvement with the show pretty much ended with the pilot episode, mainly because he wanted to concentrate on his film The Producers. Buck Henry ran the show for the first two seasons.

Thanks, cochrane. I guess I’d have to go back to watch the original development. It also explains why I kind of expected the show to be just a little bit funnier when I found out Brooks was involved, although I still think it’s plenty funny.
