In the 90s a friend played piano at the First Baptist Church of Beverly Hills. The casts of all those semi-overlapping shows attended regularly.

Thanks, cochrane. I guess I’d have to go back to watch the original development. It also explains why I kind of expected the show to be just a little bit funnier when I found out Brooks was involved, although I still think it’s plenty funny.
