I disagree with you about republicans; I find them as a rule no less objectionable than democrats. Anyone who allows their opinions to be set by committee deserves every drop of vitriol that free thinkers can spew, but membership in a political party does not necessarily require shutting off your brain.
That said, I hold a special store of disgust in my soul for people who allow ideology to overwhelm empathy. They are not only wrong, they are dangerous. Fanatacism, no matter the ideal behind the mask, has been responsible for more human suffering than any other cause I can think of at the moment. Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear, yes Friedo I am talking about you. Well, even though I’m not a Republican, the ones I’ve seen all have real jobs, do real work everyday, and have families, responsibilities, and in many cases, back-breaking jobs (just like real people). Sure, there are some misguided individuals in the Republican party, but I will say that there are more misinformed Democrats from what I’ve seen.

Your comments on welfare are interesting: you say it was no fun to grow up that way (I agree), but you still argue for continuing that failed program. Hmmm, what if someone had shown your parents how to earn more than minimum wage? That may have made a better life for your family rather than keeping you trapped in the low-income, slightly helped by welfare life. I think. I agree that it is not easy, but simply throwing a few pennies at people who are in distress does not solve anything.
Oh, and about those PETA jerks - our pets (we don’t call them pets, we call them by their names) are part of our family. We have always felt the same way. But these PETA guys are just nuts, no other words. They are killing the cause with the foolish behavior and the crap they spout off.

It failed in the fact that it provided a fail-safe security net with no incentives to progress. A ‘welfare culture’ sprung up where some people learned not to work or to apply themselves; after all, applying themselves and getting jobs would mean losing benefits and making less money. End result? A sizeable percentage of the underclass who are negatively motivated to actually pull themselves out of that situation. A system which rewards short-term thinking that results in long-term self-destruction.
Yes, welfare had its accomplishments and its successes; I am certain that you would point to your family as one of them. But just because a system works for some doesn’t mean it works in general, and welfare was doing general good for some while doing dire harm to others.

How does that state he’s a republican or libertarian? I too want liberty and rights against unjust laws and tyrannical nobles. That’s what communists claim to want too. What people seem to forget is that we all want the same thing, we just have different ideas of what’ll get us there.
It means that the people in the upper class hold jobs that pay more and require less work than those job we delegate to the lower class. Which job do you think is harder, being a garbage man, or being a paper pusher? If the maid quits her job then the paper pusher has to do all that shit himself. But that’s a simplistic way of putting it. Basically, if the labor quits, then somebody else has to do that job or else the paper pusher can’t keep his job. The brain is a fabulous instrument, but it can’t do shit without the body to support it.
And if they’re anything like you, they probably can’t be taught.
I should point out that I am holding a job. And I’ve never collected welfare before, nor do I plan to. I can support myself just fine. And don’t forget that I am also paying taxes. Just like you.
