YourSay.com- Legit?

I’m checking this out for an elderly relative. Apparently, someone from this company called her, and asked her some survey questions. A couple of days later, she got another call from them saying she’d been entered in a drawing and won a vacation. She just needs to go to the website, and claim the tickets.

If this is a scam, does anyone know where I can get some proof to show her?

It is a website based out of Singapore, would you trust a website from that part of the world? The premise of the site is click through advertising, you are required to sign up for offers from various companies and you allegedly earn points for prizes and cash. The problem is someone very often ends up owing someone a bunch of money for unwanted magazine subscriptions or club memberships. As far as the vacation goes, it will probably require the “winner” to sit through a high pressure timeshare sales pitch. I would say it is a quazi scam, those that know what they are doing and have lots and lots of time to spend clicking internet ads can get a few things, the gullible can get stung for a lot of money. I would tell the relative to stay away from them, far away.

That’s enough to make me go hmmmmmmm.

The fact that both of the “winners” who give testimonials are both Indian males, and both respond to the five questions by saying the exact same thing in a slightly different manner is a flashing red light to me- of course, so is someone paying you for such “work”.

Here’s something to remember when getting into a poll over the telephone.

Correct me if I’m mistaken about this. If you have registered your phone number for the Do Not Call list, businesses can still call you if they have done business with them before. So, if you get a survey call asking about your buying habits or something, and the survey company is owned by a shady broker or some fly-by-night scammer, they now have the right to call you any time.

Don’t trust anything from the Internet that says “you have won.” Just ignore it, period!

The trip will never be free. The upgrades you’ll want, the quality will suck and taxes/fees/port charges/etc. will add up to almost the full price if you were to pick your own cruise. Oh, and they’ll want you to show good faith by putting a refundable (maybe?) deposit on your credit card and you’ll be limited to a certain time-frame to take the trip.

Never, ever agree to win something over the phone. Just don’t.

Yes, they say it’s “where your opinions matter most”, but that apparently does not include your opinions on which web browser to use.

So true. Anyone who has bothered to install Firefox is likely to have some inkling that this is a scam, and anyone using IE is therefore more likely to be a sucker. They’ve got no vested interest at all in making their site friendly to anything other than IE.

Thanks.
