This has kind of got me stumped.
Record labels and Youtube have been taking down official music videos that users have put up on their accounts.
Now my knowledge of the music industry is minimal at best, but aren’t music videos for promotion anyway? Whats the big deal if i want to help the record label promote this band by putting the video on Youtube?
It’s not so much about promotion but the ad revenue. Did you notice YouTube is starting with the ads?
If they go to YouTube and click ads Google (which owns YouTube) makes money.
If the people have to go to Sony to view the official music video and they click on the ads (the music company say Sony) makes the money off the ads.
Furthermore if people have to go to Sony’s website they can also promote new artists on their roster. This way you’re likely to try new artists on their lable rather than other lables
