I’m not sure if there is a way, but I would like to block or disable the ability for others to look at all my recent posts or comments on other youtube videos. In other words, I don’t want there to be some sort of chronological breadcrumbs trail I leave behind so anyone on youtube can read everything I wrote on various videos and channels.
I have a main youtube account with a half dozen thousand subs and I’m trying to be very clean and respectful on my main channel. But I do go around watching other videos and leaving comments and getting into heated debates with random people on youtube that doesn’t look very good and I wouldn’t want people to be able to read everything I post on other videos.
Of course, I could just log into another account (like a dummy account) and use that to rant and vent and get into arguments with people but sometimes I just comment while on my main YT account and post as that person.
What you are asking for sounds conceptually impossible. If you leave a comment, then you are inherently putting it out in public. You can’t both have the comment out there as a public reply and simultaneously have it not be public.
The only thing you could do is just keep track of your comments and delete them after the fact. You can delete comments on YouTube easily, as long as you remember where they are. (Your latest two top level comments will show up on top, but not your replies to other people.) Maybe keep a tab open after you comment to delete it after the fact.
Instead, I do recommend what you said was difficult. I do very suggest having a second account. I have that myself. I don’t use it so much to avoid people tracking what I’ve said as much to have an account where I have notifications turned off, so I can reply to contentious situations without getting bombarded. I can call out trolls without getting trolled back.
It works pretty well on my computer, with the only annoyance being that sometimes YouTube makes it hard to find that comment in my other account that I read in my main account. Though I know that I sometimes get links that point to a specific comment, so it must be possible to fix that issue.
It works less well on my tablet, where switching accounts takes you back to the home screen with no record of your previous video, and you can’t just copy the URL and paste it back in. The best way I’ve found to do it is to have two different YouTube apps (YouTube and YouTube Vanced) and have my main account on Vanced (since it blocks ads) and my other account on regular YouTube. Then I can share the video to the other app to open it with my other account.
Or, at least, in theory. I find I don’t tend to care enough when on tablet to make bigger comments. Big stuff needs the comfort and speed of a proper keyboard.
It’s a bit more inconvenient, but not all that much.
Alternatively, you could just take the time to subscribe to everything and set up all your playlists on your second account, and then just don’t use your main account except in situations where you want to be known publicly–e.g. putting out a video.
Sorry, just to clarify. I mean so that the person can’t just look at my profile and see in chronological order every comment I’ve left behind in recent days and read them all from that one page. I’m not sure if such a thing exists as it usually does on forums and other places where someone can look up your profile and see every comment you’ve left behind on various threads. Can they do this on youtube as well?
If so, how to disable that option so if anyone does want to try and read my comment posted on others videos, it would be so difficult and time consuming trying to search them one by one.
BTW, great response! I agree with you everything you said…haha, I experience the same stuff ^^
So I was hunting around on the channel of one person I follow, and wasn’t able to find a list of comments she’s made on other videos, or anything like that. I think maybe you USED to be able to see something like that, back when YT was more connected with Google Plus? But I haven’t been able to find anything yet.
Yeah, that was a feature of Google Plus, which I (and many others) turned off. And while they did replicate some of G+'s features, they didn’t replicate that one, to my knowledge.
However, there is a feature where, if you are following someone and they post a comment on a video you watch, their comment will be moved up nearer to the top for you. The more you interact with someone or watch their videos, the more YouTube will assume you would be interested in seeing what they say.
That’s why my advice was about how to remove comments.
BTW, I forgot to mention that you can actually just delete your account. I did that once. I created a new account, copied over everything I had subscribed to, and then deleted my old account. One of the warnings is that it says it will delete all of your comments.
At least, that’s how it worked a long time ago. I’ve not tried it since.
LOL, nope. They are completely different. I wanted the wifi because I don’t have unlimited data plan. I can only use 1.5 GB/month on my plan and watching videos on TikTok in a couple minutes eats it all up! That’s why I needed wifi. But don’t worry, I got wifi now at the workplace because I asked them again to set it up and we got it done yesterday :) I took my personal wifi router back home hehe.
BTW, we all know your location isn’t 123 Fake Street. Why you hiding? hehe.
