YouTube video, US Naval losses in WWII visualized

Just a cool video on one of the channels I follow. If you don’t like the battle hymn of the Republic then you can just turn the sound down. Runs about 7 minutes. What I found cool was trying to recall which battles these took place. I was also a bit surprised at some of the locations for US losses like off Baja California and had to look some of them up for my own curiosity. Some are pretty obvious of course but others make you think a bit.

Anyway, for anyone interested in this sort of thing check it out.

When I read the thread title, I guessed you were talking about this guy. A very good channel.

Yeah, I like their channel. For anyone interested, its Military History Visualized. It’s pretty geeky military stuff, but I really like it. A lot of it is stuff I already knew, but some of it is pretty surprising sometimes.

The loss in Illinois (January of '43) caught my eye. Apparently:

“The Yard Patrol Boat was destroyed by an explosion at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Illinois.[112]”

If you watch the video all the way to the end one of the hosts on the channel comes on to explain that this was total losses, including accidents and training exercises and other incidents, not just combat losses.

Wondered about that, since some were occuring in friendly ports distant from the possibility of any enemy raids…
