You've seen this film HOW many times ? ? ?

I just noticed that ZULU! is on this afternoon…again. Hoorah!

This means I get to watch it for about the tenth time - its getting to the (almost correctly remembered) line quoting stage now - ‘Pop that fella someone!’, ‘Funny, sounds, like a train’, ‘Why us ey ?’ - 'Cos we’re ‘ere son’, ‘I just came here to build a bridge’, ‘Zulu’s, thousands of’em !’, Bromhead’s: ‘Damn the levvies man, more cowardly blacks’ to which Adendorf has the lovely reply ‘Who do you think is coming to wipe out your little outpost ?’ etc etc etc etc…

About the only film I know the dialogue better on would be Star Wars.

What are your most quotable movies ?

Tons of people can recite Star Wars. I have the rare distinction of being able to recite The Stoned Age and South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and the infinitely less rare distinction of being able to recite Clerks. OK, pretty much every Kevin Smith movie except JSBSB :).

The Usual Suspects
Clerks
Chasing Amy
Dogma
Friday

Army of Darkness
Evil Dead 2
O’ brother where art thou?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Now leave or I shall taunt you some more!

The Original Kings of Comedy

I don’t know what to tell ya Dogg.

“Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” is perhaps my favourite film. However, while translating the subtitles in Esperanto over the past week so that my fiancee could enjoy the movie, I was forced to go through parts of the movie again and again in order to ensure the subtitles matched and were clearly legible. I think I must have seen the full movie a total of five times in just a few days. Now, my fiancee will want to watch it, but I’m so sick of it for the moment that I can’t imagine seeing it yet again.

UnuMondo

When I was in highschool I used to come home and watch Ferris Bueller’s Day Off probably three or four times a week. I’ll venture that I’ve seen that movie around 200 times, and can do almost every line along with the movie and I’m vehemently angry when folks get famous lines wrong.

Also, I saw Empire of The Sun eight times IN THE THEATRE ALONE and then watched it on tape CONSTANTLY. I almost have THAT movie memorized.

*The Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Dirty Dancing * (it was really big my freshman year in HS…what can I say?)
jarbabyj, I used to be able to quote from Empire of the Sun. Unfortunately, my copy of the video was taken in a burglary several years ago and I’ve not been able to find another copy I can afford (I keep checking at the used book/video store though).

For me, Tombstone.

“A’hm yer huckleberry. That’s just mah game.”
“Why Johnny Ringo…you look like someone just walked all over your grave.”

Transformers The Movie

I’ve probably seen The Rocky Horror Picure Show 70-80 times at the midnight show (I stopped counting at 50)

  • The Wild Bunch *

I don’t usually watch most movies more than once. Sometimes I’ll watch a movie two or three times (and by “watch,” I mean “actually pay close attention to.”) I’ve watched “The Wild Bunch” somewhere around 50 times.

“If anybody moves, kill 'em.”

“Stop shootin’, you redneck peckerwood.”

“Come on, help me get his boots!”

“Please, * Senor, * don’t shoot me, * por favor. *”

“I’d like to do one last big job and pull back.”

“Pull back to what?”

“He gave his word!”

“It’s not your word that counts! It’s who you give it to!”

“Why did you try to shoot his excellency?”

“Oh, you damn gringos, you pretty smart!”

“We want Angel.”

“He don’t look too good. I don’t think you want him.”

“Let’s go.”

“Why not?”

“Come on, you lazy bastard.”

“It’s not like the old days, but it’ll do.”

A few more viewings and I should be able to recite the whole script from memory.

The Breakfast Club
The Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Life of Brian
Mallrats
Clerks
Fight Club
A Fish Called Wanda
Jackie Brown

Animal House
The Godather I, II and III
Airplane!

Wayne’s World

The Lion King - I know most of it when watching the movie, and can get good segments of it mostly right just by memory…
“Life’s not fair, is it? You see, I…I shall never be king. And you…shall never see the light of another day…adieu”
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?”
“What do YOU want?”
“I’m here to announce that King Mufasa is on his way…and youd better have a good excuse for missing the ceremony this morning”
“Oh, look, Zazu, you made me lose my lunch”

I dont have the movie at this apartment, but next time I go home, I’m bringing it back with me!

I’ve also seen The Sound of Music more times than I can count. I hadn’t seen it in years, then saw it again at Christmas and realised that I still love that movie!

I’m also beginning to learn O brother where art thou?, but I don’t know it all that much. Just the occasional fun line. “Damn! We’re in a tight spot!”

Truth Or Dare, aka * In Bed With Madonna*.

When I bought it, I was 12 and it cost me two weeks’ allowance. My mom said; “Why don’t you just rent it? It would be cheaper.”

Let’s just say it “paid for itself” within one week.

Gabriel: My aunt wrote a book. It’s called Men Who Hate Women and the Women Who Love Them. You should read it.
Madonna: I think I helped to write it!

Madonna: Oh my god, I am so embarassed. I’m sticking my head in the toilet, Nikki, I swear.
Nikki: Alright baby, but wait until we get home, okay?

Oh yes, and also L.A. Story, which I love because it has wit and heart and magic, which are my favourite things in a movie.

"Oh pointy birds/oh pointy, pointy/anoint the - "

Hmm, maybe I should go look that poem up.

Stripes

“You can’t leave me, all the plants will die.”
Joe vs the Volcano

"You mean you were diagnosed with something called a brain cloud and didn’t ask for a second opinion? "

Sling Blade

“I’m old n’ give out.”

“All right, then.”

“Coffee makes me a mite nervous when I drink it.”

“I reckon I’ll have me some of the big 'uns.”

“It ain’t got no gas in it.”

“Karl?”
