Yuck, my embroidery’s covered in mould

Because I haven’t touched my little embroidery project (not exactly embroidery, but the one in which the cloth has large holes in and you use wool) for eons it’s good a load of green mould over it. And I still haven’t finished it.

Anyone got a good idea about how I can clean it?

Is the backing material that plastic stuff, or actual cloth loaded up with sizing?
If the former, I’d be tempted to soak it in a bleachy (depending on the yarn dyes) soap solution, and blow drying . If the later

Just don’t scrub it, whatever you do, or the fibers will get all fuzzy. Whatever you end up cleaning it with, soaking (and maybe holding under a running faucet) will have to do the trick.

Try soaking it in detergent and water first… then maybe try Oxy-Clean?

Thanks! It’s the stuff I can’t quite describe – fibrous with a very big weave. I shall try soaking it maybe with a bit of Flash. It’s gross and made me v. guilty. I started it about three years ago and still haven’t finished it.
