… if you weigh in on how to pronouce Yul Brynner’s last name – “Brinner” or “Brenner”?
Since you’re just asking for opinion, I’ve always heard and prounounced it myself as “Brenner.” Which doesn’t really prove anything. But I’m standing by it.
Wikipedia gives the Cyrillic spelling of his birth name as Юлий Бори́сович Бри́ннер if that helps.
Edit: Despite showing correctly in the edit window, at least one of those letters shows up in the actual thread as a little empty box. I recommend following the link or hitting the reply button if the same happens for you.
I’m not really looking for what is “correct,” just what most people say.
I say “Brinner.”
…Brenner
Brenner
In my idiolect, “Brinner” and “Brenner” are nearly indistinguishable, but if I had to pick one, it would be “Brinner.”
Brenner
What Winston said…
Brinner.
I slur my words and mumble so much that it’s hard to tell. But, in my mind, I’m saying “Brinner”. I’m also saying “one cool mother…”
I say “Brinner”.
Was he Russian?
Brenner to me, and my family growing up. (My grandmother was a big fan.)
I spoke with him on the phone once. When I asked who was calling, he said Yul Brenner.
I’ve always pronounced his name Brinner.
Brinner.
So it is written, so shall it be done.
Brinner.
Brenner.
Interesting question, I had no clue there was any confusion over it.
Brinner here too.
