So it turns out according to Twitter he was in something I like, my favourite MCU movie Ragnarok. But his role of “random Asgardian who gets killed by Cate Blanchett” didn’t exactly make the movie:
Same here. Never heard of the guy or any of his work but then I’m nearly 72 so im sure my tastes are quite different from what he does.
Kamala Harris: 1 marriage & 0 divorces.
Donald Trump: 3 marriages & 2 divorces & 3 or more affairs.
For someone who has been influenced by Hinduism and Judaism, Harris seems to practice Christian values better than GTBTP Trump.
Yeah, he played Thor’s buddy Fandral in both Ragnarok and The Dark World, the role was originally played by another actor in the first Thor film.
It was a very minor background character with barely any lines, similar to how the character was treated in the comics. So not really something to keep his star on the rise.
I agree.
On the other hand this issue is complicated with movies and other highly collaborative works, since there’s a great many other people involved who likely don’t share the opinions in question or be outright in opposition. There’s also the problem that it’s near certain that some of the people working on a large project have objectionable opinions, so it’s really less a matter of “did obnoxious people work on this film” and more “do we know which obnoxious people worked on this film”.
Fortunately it appears he wasn’t very good, so not much is lost in this case. Like other people in this thread I hadn’t heard of him before.
I thought Shazam was fun. Shazam 2 none of the same fun. Horrible.
This may be an attempt to get some attention by someone whose 15 minutes has past.
So I loved Chuck when it aired, but I recall learning Levi was religious and held conservative views around the time the show ended or a few years after. None of this surprises me.
John Krasinski could probably take his spot in future movies. They look vaguely similar and John is not a piece of shit either.
The weird part is that Zachary Levi had written in 2020 that Trump was an immoral, problematic person. His U-turn appears to be based on anti-vax bullshit: he was a big fan of RFK Jr., and pivoted to The Cheeto when Kennedy dropped out.
Sad, I really liked Chuck.
I watched the second one. You didn’t miss anything other than some excellent actresses absolutely slumming it in a terrible film (and a gratuitous Gal Gadot cameo).
Endorsing Trump isn’t a career-ender. Anti-vax stuff will push you in that direction, depending on how hard you go. And open homophobia will push even harder.
I’ve generally enjoyed Levi in the stuff I’ve seen him in, no matter how ridiculous. But I wouldn’t miss him if I didn’t see him in more stuff.
ETA: The post-credits scene in Shazam 2 was pretty funny, to be fair. Spoiler: a couple of the crew from Peacemaker show up to talk to Shazam about joining them, but he’s such a ridiculous goofball they leave again.
I remember enjoying “Chuck,” but how long ago was that? To commit “career suicide” I think you need to have a career first. If people need to ask “who’s he?” you don’t have a career. You’re a C-list nobody.
Who the hell is Zachary Levi?
Jenny McCarthy is one of the most notorious antivax celebrities, due to falling for the debunked claims that vaccines are responsible for autism and her own child’s diagnosis. I think what saved McCarthy’s career at least partially is what you said, “how hard you go”. She has been careful to insist she’s not truly against all vaccines and hasn’t put herself out there as an activist; she just has a mistaken belief about vaccines that she has made public. And I think she hasn’t made a big deal about it in public for around a decade.
So her example seems to support your point.
Well, he’s the Shazam guy too. Seems to be working steadily but apart from that role it is indeed largely C-list stuff. Oh, and he voiced Flynn Rider in Tangled and assorted related shorts.
Certainly he’s not an A-lister, but he has had a solid career that most working actors would envy. He was a star of a successful TV show, the lead of two major movies (granted, the second was pretty poor), a lead role in a successful Disney animated film, and steady work in TV and film. I’m guessing that this will impact his future career, depending on deep down the rabbit hole he goes. Talking about career suicide isn’t a good start.
Yeah of all the cynical reprehensible shit Trump and the Maga movement pulled, deliberately co-opting the anti-vax movement is right up there (it used to trend to the left, but they took a delibrate calculated decision to embrace it)
Seriously you killed thousands of your own supporters to get the support of a couple of D-list actors and a few crazy ex hippies?
Yeah, the phrase "self fulfilling prophecy comes to mind. An attitude like that means he’s likely to take this nonsense far enough that it crosses the line from tolerable behavior to career-ending behavior. And all for lies and a grifter.
I find it odd that’s he’s worried about the future of his career, but apparently not the future of our democracy.
He’s always been a dumpster fire of a person from every story I’ve ever read about him, extending back at least into the 1990’s. Loud, abrasive, condescending, narcissistic and a relentless pursuer of teen girls.
But yeah, I’ll still watch his movies. Probably same for Levi (well, I might re-watch the first few seasons of Chuck some day). Unless they do something like go full Nazi cannibal, I do tend to divorce fucked up artists from their art. I mean there are so many fucked up artists. I might try to avoid directly subsidizing the ones that I perceive as worse by not buying a first-run movie ticket or something, but if it shows up on Netflix months later…eh. I’m not that morally pure.
I wouldn’t buy a Marion Zimmer Bradley book for instance, dead or not. But I don’t read library copies because I’ve lost all interest in MZB’s writing, not because I’d feel dirty doing so.
