DougC - they do make alarm clocks that play tapes. I’ve had one for years and love it.

I have one and love it. It wakes me up just slowly enough. Usually I don’t even remember the first few rings, and I think I’ve just woken up naturally until I realize that it’s the exact time I set my alarm for.
