Ziebart rustproofing: help or hoax?

This is one of those Q’s that can either go in GQ, or IMHO. As it is more of a “poll,” I decided to put it here. Mod, if it goes in GQ, feel free to transfer it.

Does Ziebart anti-rust treatment really work, and is it worth it? What is your experience with it?

I have a 77 Impala that belonged to my aunt. I inherited it when she died. It only had 35000 miles when I got it.Although the Minneapolis winters were hard on the frame and everything under the car the fenders showed no signs of rust. They still don’t.It still has very low milage 55000 miles It has survived a teenage driver and 10 years of Iowa winters. It has been parked outside for all of those 10 years.
I’m not sure that Ziebart is the product used but I know that it was undercoated.
Want to see for yourself???Go to your local salvage yard and look at the best looking old cars.I’ll bet they were undercoated.

Check with your dealer; I think it can void your warranty. I remember Tom and Ray Magliozzi (sp?), the CarTalk guys covering this one, but I couldn’t find it on their site.

They used to drill holes to inject the stuff, and the holes would start to rust, along with letting water in. The current metal coatings are pretty good by themselves.

I have a 1994 Ford.I had Ziebart rust proof it 2 weeks after I bought it. I bought it new, but it has always been sort of a “second” car for us, as we own better ones, and I get a company car from my employer. The Ford has never, and I mean NEVER, EVER, NOT EVEN ONCE, been stored inside a garage. It sat outside through the last 6 Wisconsin winters.
It has 122,000 miles on it. And not one speck of rest.
I say Ziebart rules!

Not one speck of rust! It’s had some rest. But no rust!
