I have heard that the hash marks on the bottom of a Zippo lighter have a meaning. The more hash marks, the better the lighter. Whats the deal?

Zippo says that the markings on the bottom of their lighter cases are for identification purposes. It’s some sort of code which tells them what month & year that particular lighter was made.

It’s a date code. They used slashes from the mid-60’s through the mid-80’s.
