ZZ Top has lost its Beard

Some of their music videos are great.

If you can find it, ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas is worth a watch. When Dusty died it was on Netflix, but now it looks like rent or purchase only. Perhaps it is at your library on DVD.

As part of the interesting backstory, I believe that Frank was the last remaining member of the proto-ZZ Top band that toured as a fake version of The Zombies

In 1969, the Zombies had a huge hit single, despite having broken up two years earlier. To meet the unexpected demand, one promoter did the only sensible thing: Hire four kids from Texas to tour America pretending to be a defunct British psych-rock band.

I can only attest to this. I saw it on Arte TV a few years ago, and it’s a surprisingly honest documentary, warts and all. Beard talks openly about his addiction issues.

Back in the '80s and '90s I think every bar band in the US had “Sharp-dressed Man” in their repetoire.

And waitin’ for the bus.

Great article! I’m a big fan of The Top and The Zombies and somehow didn’t know about this chapter in their careers. Thanks for sharing!

Their CD’s are all right next to each other on the rack.

Next to Zappa . (yeah, I have my CDs and LPs sorted in an alphabetical/chronological order). My collection runs from AC/DC to ZZ Top. Two great bands to frame it.
