New Zealand poet Marian Hogg? And Canadian Edna Jacques?

My mother has a booklet of verses by Marian Hogg, published in 1934 in Johnsonville, N.Z. IIRC, she was a teenager at the time. I Googled various ways and didn’t find anything (at least after I narrowed the searches enough for a reasonable number of results).

I found a couple of brief references to Edna Jacques, but a three-line bio and a reference to one collection aren’t very helpful.

Does anybody know anything about either?

I’ve searched about 10 NZ databases with no luck. Even their National Library is showing nothing. I’ve linked to this question on the G’Dope board in case any of our resident Kiwis have some more ideas where to search.

Same here, reprise. I tried anzwers.com.au, which is a yahoo-powered Aussie and NZ search engine. I specified “search New Zealand only”, but came up with diddly squat.

I tried spelling the name “Marion” as well, but that didn’t work either. rjk, are you sure the details are correct?

The key might be that it’s a booklet TLD published while the poet was a teenager (although the fact it was published in NZ doesn’t necessarily mean she was from there) - it’s possible she was published under a different name later on.

I searched the literary data bases and came up blank.

Was Marian Hogg’s poems self-published, or is there a publishing house on the small booklet? Like reprise and TLD, I’m coming up with zeroes so far in the search dept., but I’d like to know more about the booklet, what it looks like, and how it was printed. That might give us a lead.

That’s all the info I have on Marian Hogg; I just flipped through it when I was visiting my mother, and only thought about trying to find out more after I was on my way home. I’m sure of the spelling of the name, and remember Johnsonville and the date.

And nobody knows Edna? I’m not surprised.

I’ll resurrect this thread after I call and get more details.
