I always enjoy these threads that lists everyone's favorite posters, kind of discussing famous people you know.
of course my definition of famous is rather large.
anyway.
lets see.

mr john-
He always has funny posts, sometimes even informative. That one post he had in the Maytag repairman thread is a classic.

byzantine-
Pretty new, but she has made some fun comments, and started a thread that i enjoyed.

Papabear-
I think he is a walking encyclopedia, don't see him around as much as a few weeks ago, but his information is always really good, and his posts are fun. And he has cool cremains plans.

Diane-
I like the kitten in her sig.

Stoidela-
I would never argue with her opinion, she would stomp me in seconds, she is quite funny, too.

slythe-
Always has neat questions, and intelligent answers.

me-
Why not? Have to be conceited somewhere.

Contestant 3-
I enjoy alot of his posts, he has some good answers in mpsims. I just avoid any mention of ufo or art bell.

pldennison-
Never ever cross him. Would hate to be on the wrong side of the argument from him AND stoidela, wouldn't be able to use the computer for a week.

Gr8Cat-
General nice.

Drain Bread-
Her email reply made me decide to post to the board.

hmm, i better stop before I name everyone on the board.. geez.

You big sugar stick! Why thank you! Here's that fiver I promised! I'd have to say:

PapaBear
C#3
Shirley Ujest
Athena
Stolida (??I think I spelled that wrong)
Lew

I'll make some notes on others but so far I like almost everyone here.

I haven't been here that long so I'm sure there are some people who'll end up on my "love their posts" list that aren't there yet.

So far:
APB9999-I always loved his posts but I don't think he's around anymore . At least, I haven't seen him but I don't have time to read 1/2 that stuff on here. Damn, he was funny though.

Gaudere-VERY level headed

Flora McFlimsey-I don't always agree with her but she brings up interesting things

Aww....thanks! I'm so new here too.

My favorites:

Topolino (of course )--good at questioning the underlying assumptions

Powers--when he's thorough, he's *thorough*

cmkeller--incredibly patient and a font of information

David B--solid and strident

Stoidela--outspoken and unashamed

ambushed--never gives up (at least I haven't seen it yet)

I actually like having C#3 and Adam around, they tend to make people froth at the mouth, which is amusing. I just wish C#3 had better insults; what's the point of obscenity if you can't be really funny with it?

I must say I love mr john. His sense of humor is incredibly off-the-wall, but he cracks me up nearly every time.

I like Shirley Ujest because she's just such a great bitch. I love women who aren't afraid to stand up to people...in fact, they're the only women I really like. But we've been through that.

GOD's pretty cool, too. I'd love to know who has that alter ego, but whoever it is always comments at just the appropriate time in practically every religious debate I've seen on here, and quite a few other places as well.

And on the other hand, I like Satan. Just the right mixture of cool guy to offensive prick to encyclopedia. Reminds me of quite a few of my ex-boyfriends, actually.

Of course there's pldennison, but I've liked him for a while. At times I'll disagree with him, but I won't argue with him--not because I'm afraid of him, but because my disagreements with him are matters of opinion, and I respect him enough to leave his opinions alone.

This one will surprise most of the old-board regs, but I'm really starting to dig Big Iron. I used to despise him, and we got into it A LOT on AOL, but in my old age I'm beginning to agree with almost everything that he ever says.

I like topolino for her practicality, and the fact that she's going to be a Buckeye soon. I like David B for his intelligent religion posts. I like a lot of people, actually, which is why I stick around. I'm sure I forgot several people, but I'll add them later if I think of them.

There's a ton of posters I admire and I hesitate to try listing them for fear of leaving some out.

I'll settle for giving a huge thumbs up to my favorite newcomer, mr. john. He makes you want to reread his posts to find every litle piece of word play and obscure reference.

Just to clarify, I have no connection to PapaBear. I haven't posted as much as I used to (there's some 800 posts of old stuff)and many "new" folks don't know me. Too bad about the pranks on PapaBear. But he'll get over it. He doesn't just leave like some folks. It would take a lot of insults and harrasment to get PapaBear to react in an emotional way.

I tend to prefer the few old timers left. They hardly ever start topics anymore. But, all of you, just post some DECENT topics and I'll throw in my short irrelevant comments. I started one a while back about summer vacations and I was surpised nobody picked up on it. We could have done it National Lampoon style.

Some of my favorite posters, but not limited too:

pldennison: I have learned more big words in the correct sentence structure from him, than Sr. Mary Adolph Hitler. His ability to stalwartly and vigorously defend his views with a shoot from the hip manner while crushing his opponent is enviable. However, his rollerblading skills are lacking

David B: Intelligent, thoughtful and you can back up your view with well researched cites.

TomnDebb: Intelligent, even handed, fair. A gentleman.

Stoidela: Another shoot from the hip person that I have to respect.

ChrisTCP: A level headed mommy. ( Not to many of us out there. Solidarity, sister!)

Imthecowgodmoo: The whole "I hate bob" in MPSIMS a while back just cracked me up. Great name, too.

I'm forgetting a bunch that always give intelligent funny repartee that make my day. I humbly apologize.

I'm not a bitch, I'm just misunderstood.

Gaudere -- thanks for the compliment!

I'm not going to answer this one, though. There's really no one that I like less than I like the others. I hate to sound smarmy or wishy-washy, but I enjoy all the discussions on the boards, and couldn't choose anyone that I'd specifically favor over anyone else.

I'll stick with what I wrote in http://www.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000178.html (alas, a couple of them are no longer with us) and add a couple more:

Drain Bead: She sounds like a great person to party with, although it would probably result in my death!

Diane: To the point, sometimes shocking , and she's always nice to me .

I'm still getting to know some of the newer regs.

Well, thank you. I appreciate all the advice you've given me so far concerning the Buckeye. It quite reassuring to know someone there who has a valid, unadulterated, honest opinion about the area so I don't have to fool with those people who either don't have an opinion or who water their opinions down to the point that they mean nothing.

I will be proud to be a Buckeye, especially because it's a poisonous nut .

In my mere month of experience on this board, I'd have to include some of my favorites so far, in no particular order:

David B
CKDextHavn
daniel p bostaph
TennHippie
slythe (mostly for his aid in a certain debate with---)
Contestant #3 (whose paranoia is of admirable proportions)
kellibelli

If I can remember anymore then I will post them. If you're not on the list, I'm new, I'll get to know you.

aw,shucks. i was avoiding this topic figured it would be a buncha old timers. How can I list mine, I'll leave some out,and they won't like me any more. You are all listed by others any way. I would like to suck up some and mention nick and dex, and the diva has zinged me good a few times. Most of all I would like to thank the GRICK! This is mr john's computer.mr john is actually an ignorant, egotistical, redneck,TWIT! You should see the things he actually tries to post.It is I who am making the postings and it is not easy, having to come up with something at least semi intellegent, store his postings, display them on only his screen, change all your postings so they make sense to him.He actually thinks his name is listed here.one person truly responsible for this great honor,ME.

Medea's Child
hardy grrl

Coldfire
iampunha
Mercutio (this mainly because he's a little shit-disturber and reminds me of me 10 years ago)

Ohhh, so many...

xenophon41 - He "gets" me and wasn't afraid to say so.
Ice Wolf - for the same reason, plus she's just cool.
Spiritus Mundi - Because he make me feel hopelessly inarticulate, which I am not crazy about, but in doing so manages to express perfectly what I'm trying to badly, which is great. He was my personal hero during the election debacle.
RTFirefly - Just damn smart, unafraid, unapologetic, but not rude or mean.
ChrisCTP - Even though I hardly see her around anymore.
Hamadryad - Not much truck with her, but damn she's amusing.
elucidator - But of course...he rules my world.
Gaderene Just fair. I like fair. Fair is good. Clear, too. Clear is also good. Also kind, and kind is good. Maybe Gadarene is just...good!
RTA for providing me some company out on the liberal limb we've been known to hang on.
Polycarp He knows why.

There's at least two others that amuse me mightily on occasion, but since they both piss me off way too much, and have actually been really unpleasant to me more than once, I shan't be giving them a place of honor on my list. (Oh great, now everyone who was ever unpleasant to me - is going to think they're really amusing...)

Oh, and almost forgot: Pump Action Gerbil . He's my absolute all-time favorite.

And OF COURSE I'm forgetting people, would I be human if I didn't? Apologies to them...

Ginger and jadailey like me. Go me! And them

There's a longer list of posters I admire/like than those I don't. Instead here's a list of posters I think deserve more credit than they get (however much they get, they deserve more):

Every mod
Silo
Collounsbury
Hamadryad
Maeglin
Weirddave
pldennison
Captain Amazing
Jonathan Chance
RTFirefly
andros
Fenris
Polycarp
Nacho4Sara
Anthracite
Silver Fire
goboy
Diane

And a list of posters I wish I were more like:

Polycarp
David B
Gaudere
Cajun Man
Fenris
Byzantine
Falcon
Anthracite
Max Torque
goboy
Weirddave

That's not to say y'all aren't all cool. These people just have special places in my heart.

I made two people's lists I'm pathetically thrilled!

My favourite posters are:

Astroboy - for his love of astrogirl and tales of weeing on shoes
Scylla - Surprise!
Fenris - Surprise again!
Hamadryad - She's a woman who speaks her mind.
CrankyAsAnOldMan - See this thread.
WickedBlu - Because she's great. Just great.
Manservant Hecubus - the ever-vitriolic, ever-funny MrC.
Manda JO - A wise, clever poster if there ever was one.
Katiekildare - someone who should post much, much more.
Cartooniverse - A funny, funny guy.

I have forgotten many, I have no doubt.
