Print Drivers: PC Picks Wrong Path

I have been trying to install the correct drivers for my HP722 Desk Jet. I don't want to buy a new printer when I believe this printer should be working!

The PC is picking some incomplete path of C:\WINNT\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 ...but this folder contains NO files, but just two other sub-folders labeled "2" and "3". Folder "3" contains two potential candidates of HPVDJ722.GPD and HPVDJ722.BUD

But yet, the PC acts as if it has the right path and seems to install something! What the heck is it doing?

Also, I understand it should be looking in the I386 folder, but it's not! And, when given the chance to "Browse", it won't let me pick files from the I386 folder! In fact, it acts as if this folder is empty!

Any clues? Please help!

Try going to micorsoft.com for some updates. I had this same problem. After installing their driver everything was fine.

Please be specific and tell me what you would download from microsoft.com. I am having a hard time finding what I should download to fix my problems and make my printer print.

Run the setup program on the CD that comes with the printer.
