Guiness Book Of World Records- No longer disputed

I read that in the guiness book of worl records, a man in 1974 held the most hours on air, some 100-200 hours. It says that this record will no longer be allowed for challengers to the record.

Why is that, and what are some other records that will no longer be disputed, and why?

I know that Guiness doesn't want to encourage people to challenge records in death-defying stunts (like holding your breath underwater with a flaming oil slick on the surface), but I'm not exactly sure if on-air time would fall into that category.

Maybe because it was such a feat back then, but nowadays it would be much less so, so they keep it where it was something big.

No, the record for most hours on air hasn't been locked -- it's still up for grabs.

I do believe certain eating stunts are Heavily Discouraged in this manner as well. The mass consumption of beer comes to mind.

It makes no mention of the record being allowed to be broken again, and I recall it being some ridicoulous amount of hours(something like 14 days).

I'm probably thinking of another record.

From the article linked to:

She says she was browsing the Internet when she read about a disc jockey who attempted to break the record of 103 hours and 22 minutes. She contacted The Guinness Book of World Records in April and then plans for the marathon were under way.
Sounds like permission to break was sought and received, Aslan2. Maybe it was another record you'd read about.

'World's biggest cat' has been closed due to concerns for the (challenger) animal's well-being. Some of the other animal related records might be closed too.

As for the OP, what about when he had to sleep or use the bathroom? Does sleeping in front of the camera for 8 hours count as air time or did he have to perform a little jig nonstop for 2 weeks (another record altogether)?
