Top 5 : Horror Movies

Just for fun, in the spirit of the holiday, lets all list our top 5 horror movies EVAR! Use the loosest possible definition of horror. We don't need to have a stick up our asses about it.

1. The Resurrected (Best Lovecraft Adaptation EVAR)
2. Prince of Darkness (1987, Donald Pleasance)
3. Nightmare on Elmstreet (the first and baddest!)
4. Brain Damage (Henenlotter, 1988, from the man that gave us Basket Case
5. The Ring

These are in no particular order, just the top 5 in my book

THE RING was the best one I've seen lately.
THE SIXTH SENSE was the other best one I've seen lately.
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, just because it's... great.
NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, PART III, because I worked in a mental hospital... working with teenagers... when that movie came out. It's set in a mental hospital for teenagers.

28 DAYS, the OTHER other best one I've seen lately.

For one reason or another, most horror movies don't do anything for me. These five, however, chilled me to the bone:

Jaws
The Thing (John Carpenter version)
The Fly (David Cronenburg version)
The Tenant
Alien

Runners-up:

Frankenstein
The Invisible Man

The Haunting (original 1961 version, NOT the remake)
The Exorcisst
Alien
The Shining

tie:
Dracula - The original with Bela Lugosi
Nosferatu - The original silent horror film. Creepy as hell.

Is Horror a Sub-Genre of Suspense?

Dressed To Kill - Cuz I like DePalma & Hate Razors
The Omen - For the Soundtrack
Funny Games - Sickening and Revolting
Dawn of the Dead - Social Commentary
Aliens - For the FX

#3 - Alien (incredibly suspenseful)
#2 - Evil Dead II (wildly inventive)
#1 - Audtion (scary as hell)

Salo is definitely disturbing. I saw it in a theatre, and about 2/3 of the audience cleared out at one point or another.
