First day revenue?

Since the registration form has gone up, I’ve seen quite a few people with the ‘Charter Member’ title. I, myself, am going to register on Friday when I get my direct deposit.

Out of curiosity, though, it just seems that this idea has been welcomed by the majority of the active posters, and I was wondering if the admin would tell us how many people had registered today, the first day of subscription-taking, once today is over?

I was also going to start a thread about this, but since CompuHyperGlobalMegaNet beat me to it, I’ll second the idea.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, it would be nice to know how many people subscribed in, say, the first 24 hours.

If possible.

I hope it’s a great success. I hope the board becomes self-sustaining and begins to turn a profit to repay the stockholders of Chicago Reader for their years of generosity.

I posted in this thread. What the hell happened to my post?

I can see it, Lobsang. It’s right after my toasting the success post.

Har har. you almost had me there
I posted something along the lines of "I’d like to see that too. "

Your first post in this thread may have been chomped by the servers, Lobsang. The site’s taking a fair bit of heavy traffic today.

I didn’t stay up just for this purpose - we at the Straight Dope never sleep - but I note that as of 0210 Central, roughly 14 hours after we opened for business, we’d chalked up 1,002 subscribers.

That’s excellent, I feared a more lacklustre response.

Incredible.

Congrats are in order, I’d say.

I suspect though, that there will be an initial wave of subscriptions, and that it will quickly die down until the next wave just prior to April 22nd.

That’s fantastic! You could be an Apprentice, Ed!

Ed Zotti, keep us posted if you catch a glance at the subscription figures in the near future.

I waspredicting 2000-2500 by April 21st … looks like that’ll be a shoo-in.

Awright! The Teeming Thousand!

ok - there’s a bit more work to do, but it’s a good start!

Keep us posted Ed - Thanks.

As of 11:25 a.m. CST Wed., 3/24/04 we had 1,500 subscribers (exactly), which isn’t bad for the first 48 hours.

Excellent! A better response rate than I expected.

Thanks for the update Ed.

1,500/44,985 or Subscribers/Registered Users = 3.33% I know the full user list includes a lot of banned socks/trolls and users who aren’t with us anymore(registered just to ask one question, etc), as well as people who intend to subscribe and just haven’t yet. I’m not sure if that percentage means anything yet, or if it will even after the 21st of April, but there it is for anyone who was interested.

Enjoy,
Steven

Not bad at all. There should also be a mini-rush of at least a few hundred signing up around April 20th or so.

Thanks much for the update. Keep 'em coming as you can. Can’t wait to see when upcoming milestones like 2,000 and 2,500 are reached.

1,500 users (and rising) is damned great. Much better than I think most people expected. I remember reading dire predictions of only a few hundred signing up. So this is fabulous news.

The 45K posters includes everybody who ever registered. As I said elsewhere, we have about 7,000 current users, defined as those who have posted in the last 30 days. So our conversion rate so far is >20%.
