Since the registration form has gone up, I’ve seen quite a few people with the ‘Charter Member’ title. I, myself, am going to register on Friday when I get my direct deposit.
Out of curiosity, though, it just seems that this idea has been welcomed by the majority of the active posters, and I was wondering if the admin would tell us how many people had registered today, the first day of subscription-taking, once today is over?
I hope it’s a great success. I hope the board becomes self-sustaining and begins to turn a profit to repay the stockholders of Chicago Reader for their years of generosity.
I didn’t stay up just for this purpose - we at the Straight Dope never sleep - but I note that as of 0210 Central, roughly 14 hours after we opened for business, we’d chalked up 1,002 subscribers.
1,500/44,985 or Subscribers/Registered Users = 3.33% I know the full user list includes a lot of banned socks/trolls and users who aren’t with us anymore(registered just to ask one question, etc), as well as people who intend to subscribe and just haven’t yet. I’m not sure if that percentage means anything yet, or if it will even after the 21st of April, but there it is for anyone who was interested.
1,500 users (and rising) is damned great. Much better than I think most people expected. I remember reading dire predictions of only a few hundred signing up. So this is fabulous news.
The 45K posters includes everybody who ever registered. As I said elsewhere, we have about 7,000 current users, defined as those who have posted in the last 30 days. So our conversion rate so far is >20%.
