Get an IRC client, such as mIRC. Connect to an Undernet server, and then join the #straightdope channel.

Or just go to Undernet.org and join the chat and type in /join #straightdope.

Fill in your information. Pick any old channel in the list, you will be leaving straight after.
You get a pop up saying "do you want to install blahdiblah", say yes.
When you have the chat window in front of you, write this:

/join #straightdope

We will be there with open arms and explain all about how to connect with a client.
