Is there a Straight Dope IRC channel? It seems too busy a community for there not to be one, official or not.
If there is, could someone please tell me how to get to it, I’m new to IRC.

Good advice, porkypine, but how do I connect to an undernet server?

And then just connect to an undernet server. It’s pretty obvious.
Every time I try to connect (it’s already installed), to a server it defaults to NONE. What is the problem, anyone know?

If you’re having problems connecting through your IRC client, you probably need help with configuring it (often the server lists which come with IRC clients are out of date).
If you go to undernet webchat your PC will download a java applet which will allow you to access #straightdope.
The applet takes a while to do it’s stuff, so be patient. Once you’ve chosen your username (it helps if it’s one we’ll recognise from teh SDMB) and connected, you’ll end up in #newbies. Type /join #straighdope in the dialogue box at the bottom of the newbies chat window, and it will connect you to #SD where we can talk you through setting up your IRC client.
