I tried to find a thread about this, but couldn’t. It is just plain strange. I hope that the mutation doesn’t turn out to be harmful to the child as he grows up.

:channels slashdot:
I for one welcome our toddler ubermench overlords.
Sadly, it probably will. Missing a gene that limits your muscle growth is likely to cause problems later on.
Child has two copies of an extremely rare copy of a gene, one of which is from his mother.
Mother has at least four male relatives who sound like they have the gene.
Mummy’s keeping mum on the identity of Daddy.
Eeeeeeew! :shiver:
It’s a not all roses. There are often serious cardiac related health consequences for this condition.
Is there something you aren’t telling us, astro?
AP clearly got it wrong by calling this the first documented case of the mutation as it’s known the mother has it. The boy might be the first documented case of someone being homozygous for the trait (which makes one wonder… how did that come to be?) but the mutation itself has been long known about. In any case, with sufficient knowledge, it is possible to speculate about a condition that hasn’t been seen before. We know what myostatin does and so we can expect cardiac problems will ensue without it.
I’m missing something here. Holding seven pound weights at arm’s length sounds pretty easy to me. Can’t most adults do that? Of course, if they mean doing that for a half hour straight, that’s different.
Super-duper supermen?
Well, he’s still young. A mere Nazi superboy, really.
Care to explain what makes this 5 year old kid a Nazi, The Tim?
He’s German, for crying out loud. The war ended a while ago.
I think he’s testing the boundary conditions for Godwin’s Law.
I believe that it, like all things on this board, is a Simpson’s reference where they go to an amusement park and make fun of Disney’s reputed Nazi ties. On one hand I feel sorry for the kid because he’ll always be different. On the other hand, who’s going to dare pick on him?
Simpsons Shmimpsons…to refer to a baby from Germany as a Nazi is simply boorish ignorance and an insult to the German Dopers on this board.
I prefer to think of him as a real live Bamm Bamm.
Oh, please. You’ve never heard the phrase “Aryan supermen?” He’s making fun of Hitler, fer chrissakes, lighten the hell up.
The Tim sounds like a stupid, provincial rube but I don’t think he was trying to be offensive. And hey; he was making fun of Hitler so that sorta makes it OK too I guess.
so, if he was from Israel it would be ok to say “Jews now have their SuperJew Messiah!”
the OP made a crude joke. you might find it funny, I doubt our german contributors find constant comparisons of “german = Nazi” quite so humorous.
I’ll confirm that Simpsons reference. In the episode where they visit Itchy and Scratchy Land, Bart and Lisa see a film about the life of Roger Meyers, Sr., creator of Itchy and Scratchy. According to the film, he “loved and cared about almost all the peoples of the world,” but was criticized for his 1938 film, “Nazi Supermen Are Our Superiors.”
No, he sounds like a Simpsons fan who’s used to discussing this sort of thing with people who get his pop culture references.
What episode is that one from? I haven’t really watched most of the last few seasons, so if it’s recent, I might have missed it.
