Favorite Clothing Brand?

What is your favorite brand of clothing and why?

For me, the answer is Patagonia. Not only do they make great outdoor sportwear, they make very comfortable everyday clothing, too. They are also consistently recognized for their commitment to the environment (i.e., clothing made from recycleable materials & organic cotton) and their amazing employee benefit program. You can read more about them here and here.

I’m fond of Gramicci for their pants: nice colors, elastic waist, cinch belt, gusseted crotch, and they make great cutoffs when the start to go bad.

I have a mystery favorite brand that maybe someone can shed some light on.

I picked up this super-awesome-fitting pair of pants at a thrift store and the tag says “bice” (small “b” with an accent over the “e”). I’m all about these pants so I go online and look for them and can’t find them for sale anyplace. I see something alluding to them being part of a line at either Wal-Mart or K Mart, which would really surprise me. They are very contemporary and expensive-looking pants!

Any ideas?

I don’t have a favorite brand per se, but I love a fabric - acetate/lycra knit. It doesn’t wrinkle, it’s machine washable, always look sleek and elegant, still fits if I gain a few pounds and it’s so comfortable its like staying in pajamas all day. Most of the styles are classic, so I’ll still be wearing them years from now.

When it comes to jeans, my favorite brand is Tommy Hilfiger. I’m a tall, thin, long-legged guy and it is extremely difficult to find good jeans that fit me right. Not the case with Tommy’s though. The fit is good, the construction is good, and I usually don’t have problems finding my size(some companies don’t even make jeans in my size). They cost a little more, but they’re worth it because they last longer than other brands I’ve owned. Another brand of jeans I like is Arizona. The quality isn’t as good, but they fit nice and are reasonably priced.

When it comes to shirts, brand really doesn’t matter. I’m a t-shirt kinda guy, and as long as it fits and looks good, I’ll wear it.

Express.
They cost more (a sleeveless top is 16-20) but they last years.

Bedo, Zara, FCUK and H&M because they all make urban, hip clothes that I tend to like. Their stuff is just edgy enough (in a way that I like) that it can be “professionalised” when paired with a conservative skirt or jacket or can easily be glamourised by pairing with a set of jeans or blackasspants.

I used to really like the Express but I don’t really like the development in their styles-although I need to pick up a pair of their Editor pants before I go back to school. The Simon’s in Montreal has its own brand, Twik, that I used to like quite a bit. When I went to Scotland a couple of years ago I fell in love with Mango, but it hasn’t reached the US yet. The Limited and New York & Co. and Banana Republic are always good for button down shirts and pencil skirts and the like. I like Old Navy for professional pants sometimes but overall I find the Gap brands (Old Navy, Gap and BR) to be very dull.

I’ll throw in another vote for Patagonia. My husband wears it almost exclusively now. I sometimes do his ironing, and you can tell so much about the quality and construction of a garment when you iron it. With lesser brands like Gap, I find that the garments are often cut off-grain, the seams are sometimes twisted, and areas like the collar and placket are cut and sewn incorrectly, so that there is puckering. With Patagonia, on the other hand, the shirts iron up perfectly every time. Also, the quality of the fabric itself is so much better in the Patagonia shirts. In Gap shirts, I so often find slubs or other flaws, and the fabric doesn’t stand up well to repeated washing–it starts to look worn. Patagonia clothes hold up seemingly forever!

i1811: I love Gramicci shorts! They are the bomb! Plus, they’re one of the few brands that are cut for adult athletic-build women. Usually, womens shorts are either too teensy and immodest for my taste, or cut like a gigantic pair of culottes.

Cost more than what? What would you normally pay for a shirt?

$16 is quite high for a sleeveless top for me, being quite poor as I am.

They are $5 at Rave.

Another vote for Patagonia.

But I think Patagonia is out-indestructibled by Filson. I love my Filson clothing and luggage.

Structure/express for men(god I hate that name)

I must be their cookie cutter human model because stuff in that store fits me perfectly.

Anchor blue/Ross for jeans since they’re ridiculously priced anywhere else. Not to mention fashion jeans tend to be quit crotch grabbing as theres not much room there.

Alas, clothes are too damn expensive.

The Gap for jeans…I know it’s cliche, but their Long and Lean stretch jeans are the most flattering I’ve found anywhere. Stretch in general is a wondrous invention. Everything flatters in stretch. I hate spending $60 on jeans, b/c I’m cheap, but I’ll do it.

The only other clothing store I’m loyal to is Victoria’s Secret. I’ve bought clothing from their catalog and I love their lingerie. It lasts forever. Nothing irritates me more than a cheap bra.

Everything else is what’s on sale on a whim.

For polo shirts and any sort of pants, jeans or trousers, I go straight to Eddie Bauer. They make the only jeans (that I’ve tried) that don’t have a huge rise or (for jeans) hang off my butt. For dress shirts, I just started shopping at H&M. It’s the only store at the mall that has slim cut shirts–why they’re so hard to find, I can’t understand.

If I had to choose only one brand of clothing to wear for the rest of my life, I guess it would be any of the lines of clothing by Ralph Lauren. My favorite line is Lauren by Ralph Lauren followed closely by the Polo line.

Filson clothes are amazing. My brother has a Filson wool shirt, and I’m trying to find a way to steal it from him.

Come to think of it, I think I’ll get a Filson shirt for my husband for next Christmas. Thanks for the idea.

I have a hard time finding clothes to fit me, but Banana Republic seems to fit and flatter and everything. Except their clothes are ugly right now - gotta wait that out. I can’t find jeans to fit me anywhere at the moment, though - can’t seem to fix that one.

Victoria’s Secret cotton panties are worth their weight in gold, I tell you. Perfect in every way.

H&M? I love H&M! We spent too much time there in Germany. (None where I live, though. :() It’s not that I find their clothing attractive, as I would never seriously wear it, but I did pick up these shirts there (Note: None of the people in these pictures are me. In the first, I’m loaning my 1,90 euro shirt to him, and in the 2nd, the three of us had all bought that 2,90 euro shirt.

The clothes definitely seem to hold up well after extended use. I also really like the organic cotton t-shirts. They are amazingly soft and comfortable for being so resilient.

Not a “label geek” but Ecko Unlimited gets my vote.

You can’ beat ZEGNA for shirts…though at $200.00 a pop, they are abit pricey. For pants I like CORNELIANI…and for $1200.00, I got a pair of wool-cashmere slacks that are great. For suits, Zegna or Corneliani…and shirts, Thomas Pink of London is pretty good.
I’m like Jay Gatsby…can’t get enough of class!
