Headliner 6@6 Poll #37: Post Your 6 CamperVanBeethoven Faves WITH links to Past Polls

Subtitled: Tell us all of your favorite fruit…or better yet, just post your six of your favorite Camper Van Beethoven tracks

First: The Who’s, What’s, Where’s & Why’s of the Headliner Poll
As per Tit Whistle’s request & in an attempt to squeeze as many bands in the shortest amount of time possible, The Tuesday 6 @ 6 Polls include a Headliner poll. This Camper Van Beethoven poll, like the featured [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=272858] Cracker thread will be closed and tallied 7 days from today, Tuesday August 31, 2003 at or about 6PM EDT. Results from all polls will be posted a few minutes later on that same day in Week #38’s featured Creed 6 @ 6 Poll.

Why you ask? After the ZZ Top poll, sometime this decade, the plan is to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them in a few threads. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & mail ‘em out to the voters who helped keep these threads going.

Second: Links to the 62 artists we’ve already closed polling on
They’re all closed and tallied, so don’t piss of the administrators by posting to them. If you like to read any of them, here you go…The pile just keeps on growing:
Sheryl Crow § Chicago § Jim Croce§ Concrete Blond § Cowboy Junkies § Cocteau Twins § Derek & The Dominos § Cream § Eric Clapton § The Clash § Elvis Costello § Collective Soul § Alice Cooper § Cheap Trick § Captain Beefheart (& His Magic Band) § Nick Cave (& The Bad Seeds) § Leonard Cohen § The Cars (Benjamin Orr, Rick Ocasek) § Neko Case (& Her Boyfriends) / New Pornographers § Canned Heat § J J Cale § Johnny Cash (& The Tennessee Two) § Cab Calloway § Dave Clark Five § The Bonzo (Doo-Dah) Dog Band§ Cake§ Beck (Hanson) § Jimmy Buffett § Jeff Buckley § The Byrds § Buffalo Springfield § Bush § Kate Bush § Jackson Browne § James Brown § Better Than Ezra § Banarama § David Bowie / (Tin Machine) Boston § Bon Jovi § Blur § Belle & Sebastian§ Blue Öyster Cult § Blondie§ Blink 182§ Black Sabbath§ The Black Crowes§ Bjork / Sugarcubes§ B-52’s§ Chuck Berry§ Beastie Boys§ Jeff Beck§ The Band / Robbie Robertson§ The Beach Boys§ The Beatles§ The Animals§ Tori Amos § Alice In Chains § The Allman Brothers§ AC/DC § Abba& Aerosmith polls. You wanna know a dirty little secret? Those 7 some odd lines of linked text is made up of 6,127 characters.

Contemplating what your 6 favorite Camper Van Beethoven tracks may take a while, but it only takes a minute to post your selections here. Compare your favorite tracks with other dopers who voted and see all the tracks and how many votes each song got next week after this poll closes.

Third: The Poll & How it Works
It’s simple enough, post your 6 favorite songs by the artist. Personal observations, opinions, liner notes, comments and the like are always welcome but are in no means required. You May include Cover Versions and of course, duets or other offshoot projects. If you specify Live version, it will be noted, but tallied together with the studio version of the same title. My only request of you is to please try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks.

Lastly: The Headliner Poll Artist of the Week
As I’m quite certain you can see, I’ve blabbered on for far too long already. So, without further ado, for Tit Whistle…Camper Van Beethoven.

Here are my 6 CAMPER VAN BEETHOVEN selections:

  1. Who Are The Brain Police
  2. I Was Born In A Laundromat
  3. Jack Ruby
  4. Turquoise Jewelry
  5. Pictures Of Matchstick Men
  6. Eye Of Fatima (Part 1)

So, do you have 6 faves? Will Tit Whistle remember he asked for this poll almost 2 years ago? Is CVB popular enough to knock Elvis Costello’s “Watching the Detectives” off the top vote getter position. There’s always that chance – though I’ll concede it’s somewhere between hair thin and none. Those answers and much more next week, same Eastern Standard Time, same web address.

Thanking you all in advance I hope to see you at the Cracker and Alex Chilton / Big Star / Box Tops polls. Have a great week!

Now if we only could combine Cracker and CvB we’d be getting somewhere

  1. Jack Ruby
  2. All Her Favorite Fruit
  3. Borderline
  4. I was Born in a Laundromat
    5 )Take the Skinheads Bowling

  6. Come on Darkness

Honorable mention to Matchstick Men, since it was my favorite for a long time (before I discovered the better stuff).

Can I un-vote Take the Skinheads Bowling.? Gah! Just heard it one two many times and the novelty wore off. Although I must admit, when you are with camper-friendly friends, it is a fun song to quote at random.

Friend: wanna get lunch?
Me: dunno. everybody’s going home for lunch these days.

Okay so there are better examples, but these games amuse my simple mind.

Cheers

I’m the opposite: I have, believe it or not, only heard it a handful of times. In order to know if it deserves a top 6 slot I’d have to hear it a bit more, but I recall it being better than anything else off of Key Lime Pie that’s not on my list.

But I could be mistaken. For instance, I have also only heard Bring on the Dancing Horses by echo a couple of handfuls of times, and I was prepared to vote that in my top 6 when Echo comes up sometime in 2007, until I heard it recently, and it doesnt compare to most of the tracks on their eponymous album and is worse than EVERYTHING on “What are you going to do with your life?”

At the risk of being an insufferable know-it-all, perhaps you mean Telephone Free Landslide Victory? In that case, I can see how Skinheads might be the album favorite. I’m partial to Key Lime Pie, especially the last half of the album, so I thought to myself  “Is that song on Key Lime?”

For me, after hearing the song so many times, the lyrics crossed the fine line between clever and… something else. Enjoy it until you become old and bitter like me.

  1. When I Win the Lottery
  2. One of These Days
  3. Eye of Fatima (Pt. 1)
  4. Life Is Grand
  5. Change Your Mind
  6. Take the Skinheads Bowling
