U2's new song

I heard Vertigo, from the as yet unreleased "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" yesterday on the way home from work. I kept thinking that it sounded like an old U2 song, but I had never heard it before. I've not been a huge fan of U2, but I know the hits and that's all they play on the radio in these parts. I was quite surprised and pleased to hear that it was a new song. They sound to have gotten their "groove" back on, IMO.

Anyone else hear it yet?

I heard it and was a little put off, but after a couple listenings, I really started to dig it.

They're really good at making music where at first I go, "gawd, what are they doing?" and then really catch onto after repeated listenings.

I think it's a hell of a lot better than "Beautiful Day"!

I'm a huge U2 fan (as if the name doesn't give that away) and I absolutely love this song. I thought they'd played it way too safe on All That You Can't Leave Behind, so I'm beyond thrilled to hear something from them that has more of an edge (no pun intended). Now I just have to survive the 6 weeks until the album comes out...

I like "Vertigo" a lot. Reminds me of a real return to U2's post-punk roots, like the more raw, primal sound they achieved on Boy and the other early albums.

25 years later, it's no accident U2 is still one of the biggest and best bands in the world.

BBVLou, I was just complimenting your Blue Beetle/Booster Gold actor choices, and now I'm going to agree with you here. U2 is one of only a wee handful of groups whose albums I will buy without hearing them first. I can't wait to hear their new album. I haen't even heard "Vertigo" yet!

I've always been partial to their hits, but I buy the records and I'm left a little wanting. U2 for me is the perfect band for a "Best of" album. But, I gotta say, "Vertigo" sounds like an outtake from an old record.

Wild. I just this song for the first time on the radio just a few minutes ago. Great song! The first thing that came to mind when hearing it was.....Damn, that sounds a lot like Sonic Youth!

U2 never ceases to amaze me!

Cool song, but what is Bono saying at the beginning? It sounds like "Uno, dos, tres...catorce (?)"

Is that Spanish mixed with Portuguese, Italian, or other?

It is Spanish for "One, two, three... fourteen!"

I was confused at first, until I realized that this is the first single from their fourteenth album.

Lou: Thank you!

Snooooopy: I must agree. I wish they'd just called it "Vertigo."
