Additional 6@6 Poll Week #45: Post 6 Cop Shoot Cop Faves PLUS Links To Past Polls

Subtitled: The continuing quest to solicit, record, tabulate, tally and examine the musical tastes of some of the most discerning people on the internet. Whether you're playing along from your CD library, Computer's Jukebox program or iPod - fire it up, replace your headphones with a thinking cap and let's get to voting...

First: The Who’s, What’s, Where’s & Why’s of the Supplemental Poll

In an attempt to squeeze as many bands in the shortest amount of time possible, The Tuesday 6 @ 6 Polls include a Headliner, Supplemental & Additional poll. This Cop Shoot Cop poll, like the featured Damned, the headliner Buzzcocks and the Butthole Surfers threads will be closed and tallied 7 days from today, Tuesday October 26, 2004 at or about 6PM EDT. Results from all the polls will be posted a few minutes later on that same day in Week #46’s Featured Eurythmics 6 @ 6 Poll. Why you ask? After the ZZ Top poll, sometime this decade, the plan is to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them in a few threads. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & mail ‘em out to the voters who helped keep these threads going.

Third: This Week’s Other Polls

Access them one of 3 ways: (1)Click on of the links on my signature. (2)Access them through the Café Society page. (3)Bog down the server and do a search on the Headliner Buzzcocks, the Damned Featured or the Butthole Surfers Supplemental 6@6 poll. Please Note: Each & every week, the featured poll includes the tallies from the previous week's polls as well as a doper vote tally. The weekly headliner poll includes a list of the each artist we've polled and the top 6 vote-getting tracks. The supplemental poll includes hyper-links to all the closed 6@6 polls and the additional poll (when run) usually contains the SDMB chestnuts.

Fourth: Top 6@6 Poll Posting Guidelines

All you have to do is list your six favorite tracks from this week’s featured artist. If you’d like to add your own liner notes or opinions, please go right ahead – I, for one, love reading them. If you specify a live version, it will be noted, but tallied with the studio version. Cover versions (performed by the artist we’re polling) are acceptable, as are duets and off-shoot projects. Re: Segues - Certain tracks were written to be segued (connected to) an adjoining song from an album. They obviously count as one track. There are countless examples: Everything from the Abbey Road Medley to many Zappa tracks. Please try to be as accurate as possible when naming your favorite tracks.

Lastly: The Week #45 Additional Poll Artist of the Week
Without further ado…The Cop Shoot Cop Additional 6 @ 6 Poll.

Wow. It's unfortunate there's not more posters here. CSC was spectacular. As far as the spinoffs went, Phylr's first album was really good; Red Expendables was okay, and I really dig Firewater.

Alllllllright.. On to my favorite 6 CSC songs. Very difficult to cull the list down, I'll tell you. And other than number 1, which I just freakin' love, it's hard to put them in any particular order.

6. Corporate Protopop, from White Noise. A spoken word bit, timeless in its message of consumerism and hive mentality. Makes you want to start baaaaa-ing like a sheep. If spoken word doesn't count, I'd like to list Feel Good from the same album.

5. Shine On Elizabeth, from the Room 429 EP. Just a nice snapshot of how ragged and aggro but also how tight they were live. Never had a chance to see them.

4. 3 A.M Incident, from the Johnny Mnemonic soundtrack. I like the percussion on this one, and several of the lyrics; the one that struck me the most was "mouth curled into a question mark", then I THINK the line is "head thrown back defines an arch". Yeah, yeah; if it was so striking why can't I remember it? Well, I love it anyways. So phooey on you.

3. Any Day Now, from Release. I guess it's about procrastination, or maybe how, since you were always told you could be anything you wanted when you were a kid, you maybe just expected to one day just "be" that professional. "One of these days wake up become an astronaut". Again, probably murdalized the lyrics; I have such bad memory. I guess I shouldn't be so analytical; the song is catchy, and in an odd time signature; not being a musician, I'd say 15/4? Maybe someone could help with that?

2. Got No Soul, from Ask Questions Later. It personifies the drudgery and monotony of life, and a meaningless job. Just the mechanical clanking in the background, the factory aspect, a machine grinding on with no purpose.

And, the greatest of the CSC catalogue...

1. Everybody Loves You, from Ask Questions Later. You know life is meaningless, you are alone, you know there is no reason to exist any further, then living people who knew you either a) express their feelings about you they should have done when you were alive, or b) the opportunists who capitalize on your demise by being "someone who knew you" or whatever; maybe they could get a sympathy hump out of it. Also, there's the irony (if it's not irony, I expect the irony mis-use police to be at my door momentarily. Maybe I'll share a cell with Allanis) that, maybe part of your motivation was to ellicit some kind of response from people, and now that you did something that got their attention, you aren't around to experience it, to gloat, or to establish a friendship or relationship or whatever. Only flaw is the line "maybe you should take along a friend". I don't really get that too much. Sure, they say it's lonely, but I KNOW (hypothetically) that I want to die; I wouldn't kill a buddy just for grins and giggles. If they want to kill themselves, fine, but that ain't my monkey.

And that is probably more than you wanted to know about my views on Cop Shoot Cop. But I would like to thank you, John, for starting this series, and this thread, in particular. Good to know there are those who like CSC. Heck, it was important enough to me that I subscribed to the message boards!
