I started watching it about the second or third episode in, and now I’m hooked.
What do you think is up with Rex? I’m wondering if he’s gay. Bree seems wound just a little too tight to me…I keep expecting her to shoot up a mall or something.
So, Dana must be Zach’s little sister. What happend to her?
Exactly what does Carlos do for a living?
I liked seeing Lynette taking down Maisy a notch…good for her! But is she now going to be hooked on her twin’s Ritalin?
Now that Juanita has figured out who Gabrielle is having an affair with, will she tell Carlos, or will she handle it on her own?
I don’t think Rex is gay – I think he’s been totally emasculated by Bree, though. Yay for him for throwing her out of the motel room, though. I am curious to find out what it is that he wants that he hasn’t asked for – either something wildly kinky, as Phlosphr suggests – or something utterly benign.
I love watching Gabrielle and Juanita circle around each other – a well-matched pair of opponents. And I love it that the gardener is dating Bree’s daughter.
It’s great seeing Lynette start to come out of her victimhood a little bit – you could really see the tough businesswoman she had once been last night. The hopeless victim of the kids from hell never quite rang true to me.
The relationship between Teri Hatcher and her daughter is really cool, too.
I am definitely digging this show, as has become known far and wide – a friend IMed me last night at 9:15 and started with “I know you’re watching Desperate Housewives, but…”
Not an idiot at all – I was in the other room peering at the final shot going “what is that object and what detail of that object are they showing?” So I appreciate the clarification.
I think that Rex may want someone else in the room during sex - either as a participant or an audience member.
I’m liking the series, but there’s one thing that bothers me - the plot is a little too self-contained in the individual episodes. Sure, we’re given more pieces of the puzzle(s) each week, but there don’t appear to be very many “clues”. Maybe it’s too early, but there don’t seem to be too many things we can point to and say, “this obviously connects with this, which is connected to B, which fits with C.” For instance, the Dana reveal could have been left for another episode, after a few red herrings in next week’s episode or the week after. I don’t want “Twin Peaks” convoluted, but I would like some more depth.
I thought Rex might be gay, too. What convinced me was when Bree said, “We all have secrets, what’s yours?” and he was silent.
Then again, I thought that maybe the fact that she couldn’t even focus on him during sex and was more worried about the burrito upset him because it reminded him the ugly aspect of her personality and it’s the reason he wants a divorce.
Exactly. I think that Rex’s big kink is that a mess turns him on, while Bree’s Stepford Wife attitude is a complete turn-off.
As for Dana, my guess is that Zach was led to believe that he was responsible for her death, which led to his mental instability, but his parents were actually at fault. But in the first episode, we saw Zach’s father digging up the pool. Given all of the snooping the neighbors are doing, you think they’d notice that the pool was dug up. And what was with the brief shot of pile of cash and maps in the back of Mary Alice’s pantry?
I believe that was in the back of Mike’s pantry. The neighborhood slut was cleaning up after she, Mike and Dishrag had dinner and Mike and Dishrag rushed Mike’s dog to the vet after he swallowed one of Dishrag’s earrings. This led to the big “Mike’s still in love with his dead wife so we’ll just be friends” revelation for Dishrag that lasted all the way to the beginning of the following episode.
Those weren’t in Mary Alice’s pantry, IIRC. I think that was Mike Delfino’s house because he’s clearly a bounty hunter or something. I think his map of the street appeared in another episode as well. (aaand on preview Otto beat me to it)
I think Dewey has the right idea about Dana, I don’t think Zach is actually responsible for anything. But if that’s the case, who sent the note? It’s always possible that Zach found out what happened to Dana, sent his mom the note, and that’s the terrible thing he did that caused her to kill herself. That was my initial guess.
The gardener is hot. It’s not really plot analysis or speculation, but it needs to be said. Hot. Hot. Hot.
Why in the world is Gabrielle attracted to the high school gardener, anyway? Why is she out of love with Carlos, and why isn’t she hooking up with someone her own age?
I think that she’s fallen out of love with Carlos because he really doesn’t offer her anything except money and presents. He seems like sort of a jerk too, remember the first episode when he told her if the person he was doing business with wanted to grab her ass she should let him? And he’s leaving her to deal with his mom who she obviously doesn’t get along with. He knows that. Oh, and he assaulted a stranger!
John gave her a perfect rose, remember? He’s sweet and nice and innocent and generally good-hearted (even if he does get whiny about not seeing her)
Huh? Who is Dishrag? I’m assuming it’s pejorative for someone you don’t like. I haven’t seen every episode–just three. I saw the premier, the episode where Carlos’s mom arrives, and I saw last night’s. I’m obviously missing lots of stuff. I like what I’ve seen so far though. Addicting.
Thanks for the correction about the location of the money. As for your theory, it’s very possible that you’re right that Zach is feeling guilty about sending the note causing his mom to committ suicide.
I’m leaning toward Zach having some (unintentional) involvement with what happened to Dana, but I don’t get him sending the note. If he thought his mom was responsible, then why the hostility toward his dad?
Any ideas about who that mean old man was who met with Mike Delfino at the soccer game? The one who hates children? Clearly Mike works for him and Mike is breaking into neighborhood houses trying to find something for him. Was might it be? Is this mystery somehow connected to the Mary Alice/Dana/Zach mystery? Seems like it must be. I guess Susan’s bad luck strikes again, because I don’t see how this thing with Mike could possibly last, even if his feelings for her are sincere… which is still in question.
I wonder how long this story arc will take to wrap up. If it’s just this season, what will the focus be next season? Will Mary Alice still narrate?
