Ok, here's my story. I'm moving this weekend. I'm trying to get closer to work. Well, one of my contentions when picking an apartment complex was the availabilty of cable modems, which I'm currently using. I called @Home and they said they were available in my area. Cool, I sign the lease and schedule an install for next Monday. No problem. Then, they call me Tuesday to say that I have like the one building in the complex that doesn't support cable modems. The tech said he'd put in a servicability request, but it would be a couple months before anything was done. I can't go 2 months. So, my only other option I can afford is DSL. T1's are out of my price range. So, I call the local telco because they have a nice package deal going on, but they aren't even sure if it's supported in my area. Stupid me thought the fucking phone company would know things like that. On top of that, I don't pay for a regular phone line. All I use is a cell phone, which is why the cable modem was so great. So, it turns out I have to pay for regular phone service, too. Why? I'm not going to use it. So I put in the order for the phone line. It'll be installed Friday or Monday. That line has to be in service for 7 days before I can even put in the DSL order, at which point it's going to take 20-30 days before they even get around to doing testing to see if they can install the fucking line. I work with this shit everyday, just not for the telcos. It's not that hard, people. I could do it myself in 30 minutes if they'd give me switch access. I have a copy of the translations at home. What's the holdup? So this means I have to go from downloading everything I want in seconds to a regular dialup connection for a month. I'm going to go insane. I can't handle 10k/sec d/l's. In a nutshell, I hate the fucking phone company. They are one of the most unorganized groups of people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Are they like this everywhere, or just in North Texas?

Welp, that's my rant. Feels good. I've never posted to this forum before. Oh well, guess I'll go buy the store a buy a modem. 56k my ass.

I feel your pain. I am currently at school with a T1 connection. I am dreading the day that I graduate and have to get an Apt. I am gonna die.

But yes phone pcmpanys are jerks anywhere.
