McDeath and I are going to a couple of ball games in May, and we’re wondering about a good hotel close to the stadium.
Also, are there shuttles, etc that go from the hotels to Safeco, or do we have to look at cabbing it?
Thanks in advance,
S.

Well I don’t live downtown but generally the area of town Safeco is in, you don’t want to be staying near IMHO.
Grab a hotel downtown. It’s not too far to the hotel and if there’s no shuttle you could even see if there’s a direct bus line to it.
Best Western Pioneer Square is a small historic hotel, very nice and within walking distance to Safeco Field. The area can be a little dodgy at night, but in my experience that’s not a problem on game nights, with the amount of people walking back to their cars and the police presence. The rooms are on the small side though so request suites if they are available.
No shuttles that I know of but many of the Metro busses stop at Safeco and it’s free within the downtown area (I think “Free downtown” ends right after Safeco though so ask the driver).
Not near Safeco. However, the central bus stop for all Seattle is right next to Safeco, and it’s a free ride from downtown.
Also, the roads can be pretty funky in the area of Safeco, so it might be best to bus even if you have a rental car.
Forgot to add, feel free to email me if you need hotel contact info.
When I visited Seattle and took in a game at Safeco, I stayed at the Edgewater. The extra money for a waterfront room is definitely worth it. It was one of the finest hotel experiences I’ve ever had.
Cool, thanks for the responses so far!
Also looking for restaurant recommendations, things to see & do … we’re there for two nights - arriving on a Friday afternoon, and leaving on a Sunday morning, so not a WHOLE lot of time, but I’ve never been there and would love to see at least a couple of cool attractions …
If you do stay at the Edgewater, there’s a very nice place just a pouple piers down. Check out Anthony’s Pier 66. It a fairly traditional seafood joint, but very well done.
I suppose this goes without saying, but if you’ve never been to Seattle, you should check out Pike Place Market.
Anywhere downtown.
It’s a free ride to the stops closest to Safeco (assuming you bus. Safeco is close enough to anywhere downtown that you may as well walk), and both before and after the game, hordes of people will be walking to and from the station.
Plus, it’s a safe area. (Unless you get really, really lost. But if you stay with the horde, you’ll be fine.)
