Ummmm......

Is anyone aware of the fact that customs in the Middle East are different than here, and that one of them is that friends of the same gender will walk holding hands? I think it was a nice gesture on GWB's part to welcome a visitor by showing knowledge of the visitor's customs and using them.

Especially knowing that the gay comments and jokes would start arriving by the truckload. I'm just sayin'...

This isn't the first pic of them holding hands. There's even one where it looks like Bush is leaning in for a kiss. I'm sure there's been other Middle Eastern visitors/dignataries and I don't recall seeing any similar pics of them. I don't think the humor is in the "oooh, they're gay!" jokes but in the "Bush will do anything for oil." jokes.

The best "caption" I saw for this was done by the designers of The Dallas Morning News, as either intentional mockery or an accidental hilarity: an article with a picture of Bush and Abdullah holding hands--in front of a lovely field of bluebonnets, no less--right next to an article with the headline, "House bans gay unions."
