CNet and IGN are good, but it takes a while for them to come out with new reviews. Engadget has all the latest news but no real reviews. Are there any other good sites?
I use CNET for most of that stuff. First you need to figure out how you’re going to be using your player, and that will guide you in the right direction.
For example, are you going to work out with it? keep it in your car as a jukebox? does it need a radio? etc…
I do know what type of player I want, but I want to be able to compare the specific players against one another. C|Net has good reviews, but I’m shopping around for a new player now and I’d like to hear about some of the new ones that they didn’t get to yet (like Sony’s NW-500 series).
I’m a big fan of The Gadgeteer
I’m sure they don’t have reviews of every device out there, but the reviews they do have are pretty good. The reviewers are very picky about their gadgets, so it helps me find what would work for me because I’m not nearly as picky about that stuff. They point out all the flaws (as well as the good things) of the devices, even the tiniest things, and if I feel like I can live with those flaws, it seems like a good device for me.
For more informal reviews, check the user feedback feature at newegg.com. The clientele there is fairly technically oriented so you won’t get too many of the “THIS HERE INTERNET THING BROKE MY BRAIN” types of posts.
Thank you for all the replies so far. I’m sorry to bump this this one time, but I’m still trying to find a few more good sites. Got one more now, dapreview.net. Are there any others?
And ouryL: I don’t really want to get an iPod. I have personal issues with some of their features
