These days at least, I start off with Gamespot followed by IGN, MMORPG if I’m interested in something online. Which sites do you checkout for the gamer Straight Dope?
I hate IGN, because they’re pretty much for sale. The more zeroes on your check, the better the review.
I check GameSpot and 1Up if I’m really looking for serious reviews.
1up or Etoychest, but mainly I rely on word-of-mouth through another forum I go to. GameRankings is also handy.
Gamespy, IGN, and Gamespot daily. I also check Blues News every day, so I may read reviews on other sites as Blues News reports them.
Oh, and Metacritic if I’m wondering what the compilation score is for a title.
I stick to GameFaqs.
Gamespot. They’re usually pretty spot on, as far as my tastes go. Failing that, Gamefaqs, if I need to get a quick idea of how the game is regarded. I don’t often read too deep into the reviews, though, because 14 year old hacker speak gets to me after a while.
I lost what little respect I had for IGN when I woke up, hit the site and saw the infamous McDonald’s makeover. Wish I’d saved a screenshot of that. It was truly wretched.
Me too. And most boards there are pretty good about spoilers too. Although I still avoid them if surprise in a certain game is really important to me just because not everybody really cares.
Penny Arcade, or Gamefaqs if I’m interested in a particular game (as opposed to rundowns of whatever happens to be coming out right now).
Oh, and Old Grandma Hardcore.
I check 1up, gamespot and IGN. Sometimes, I also check gamerankings.
I’m a Gamespy fan myself. I used to do Computer Gaming Online, but I think they have either faded or they when with a subscription fee…I don’t remember which. Also, I usually go on the Vault Network…they have a lot about the various MMORPGs out there, and usually there is a Vault for even games in beta…so you can sort of follow how the beta is going, at least in the public forums.
