Slight warning- I am pretty fucking angry right now, therefore this all may not be too clear. Also, I know the soldier’s wife, so I am particularly pissed (as we all are when things happen to those around us). Sorry ahead of time if I ramble. I should also note that I am aware the links provide his name and such, this is all public knowledge now (the wife invited the public to the funeral and that is how these assholes found out). If the mods find this to be a problem, you can unlink.

Two weeks ago, a local soldier died in Iraq from an IED. Within a few hours, I found out that the soldier that died was, in fact, the husband of a friend of mine from debate in high school. The wife is 6 months pregnant and her husband just had his face blown off, so clearly our community has been reaching out to help the family.

Yesterday evening, the Governor (yes, that one) called the wife and explained that he declared all State flags to be lowered in the soldier’s honor; he also asked if he could attend the funeral. The wife was happy that her husband was being honored as a hero and all was well.

Until a few hours later, when these assholes decided to call the wife. They told her that her husband was a fag and that God killed him because God hates fags. Oh, they also added that her husband is burning in hell. Did I mention this is an already emotional pregnant woman?

They then told her that they will be flying in from MO to protest her husband’s funeral this Saturday. What…the… fuck? Here is a link to their PDF file, calling people to protest: did I mention they call it a Love Crusade?
So to you, soldiers of God (or whatever you think you are):

I’m pretty fucking sure God doesn’t like you using His name to spread your vile hate. I am probably the most liberal person in this county and I, too, love the First Amendment, but… what the fuck are you trying to accomplish, you goat-felching idiots? If you don’t like a policy, why not…I dunno…GO TO THE GOVERNMENT? Why would you harass a poor, pregnant, widow?

When I heard you were going to protest, I immediately thought you would be anti-war protesters. That would still be shitty, but at least it would make some sense. But no, you are essentially protesting Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell…AT A FUCKING SOLDIER’S FUNERAL.

I’ve heard that they were doing this at soldier’s funerals. I can’t imagine what they hope to accomplish.

Don’t ask, Don’t tell let in some gays-- who made all the other military people gay. So our entire military is gay. Therefore, they deserve to die and the terrorists are doing the work of God with IEDs.

Did students from Washburn U in Topeka actually bomb the Westboro Baptist Church? (And thusly incur God’s wrath to kill soldiers and that makes Phelps somehow happy).

I mean, I know Phelps is way the fuck out there, but usually it kinda makes some “sense” (not that I agree with it at all, but the bat shit crazy points meet somewhere at least).

From what I can tell from looking at the pdf file, they are pretty much calling everyone who disagrees with them “fags” now. I didn’t see them accuse the guy of anything in that pdf, but apparently he died in support of a “fag” agenda.

I’m just shaking with anger. I can’t imagine if someone did this at my husband’s funeral. It is going to take so much self control Saturday, because I know they want a reaction.

And yeah, they think he is gay; they told his wife that last night on the phone. Their words were, “He was a fag and God has condemned him to an eternity in hell.” Good to know God has told them what’s up, because CLEARLY the rest of us are confused.

CandidGamera, apparently she can’t really do anything because she invited the public to the funeral. She has been told that the police, sheriffs, and military (duh) will be present; when the first peep is made my protesters, they will all be arrested.

Hm… I don’t really see that as related. They called up a woman they would reasonably expect to be in a fragile emotional state and intentionally verbally harassed her. Whether they’re allowed to be at the funeral or not, that seems… actionable. But hey, I’m no lawyer. Maybe Bricker will stop by?
