My husband is making plans to drive to Louisiana with several members of an animal rescue organization to which we belong. He’ll be driving this bus filled with food, water, clothing, and first aid supplies, and will return with a load of homeless pets in need of adoption. I don’t know yet exactly when he will leave. I cannot go because this will require stamina, and I am very ill.
I am deeply proud of my husband, but I am also worried. Prayers and good wishes would be very much appreciated.
Good wishes abound from here. Tell him to be very careful. I’ve been reading a live journal of a group still in the New Orleans, and they describe the streets as the jungle. No law whatsoever.
Is he going there or to Mississippi?
The plan is to go to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. An animal rescue organization in Baton Rouge is coordinating the trip, and the exact itinerary is flexible.
I was just reading a news article describing a little boy being forced to leave his dog behind as he and his family were boarding a bus from the Superdome.
Thank him, for me and my furbabies, for going to help. Our thoughts will be with him to keep him safe and with you, to keep you sane. (well, we can try! ) Keep us updated and take care of yourself while he’s gone.
Good luck and Godspeed to him and his companions. When a wildfire was headed for my house a few years ago, my doggies were first in my plan for what to cram into the van. I can’t imagine the heartbreak of having to leave them behind.
Well at least you are bringing food, water, clothing, and first aid supplies for human beings. That makes up for totally absurd wasted time and resources that are to be spent for totally irrelevant animals when actual human beings are extreme dire need.
I really can’t understand this attitude. Would it be better if the bus came back to Oklahoma empty, rather than coming back filled with pets who are in need of homes?
Somebody has to be wasting their time better spent assisting human beings in dire need by getting the irrelevant animals. I understand that you think that animals are more important than humans. I just don’t agree with it. At least your husband is planning on doing some good while contributing to the bad.
You didn’t. This is quite normal lately; anytime someone starts a thread about helping animals, someone else jumps in to complain about people being ignored or considered “less important.”
Your husband and his friends are doing a good thing, pinkfreud.
