It was getting poor reviews but IMDB votes are a 7.4, I would give it a 7.
The theatre was packed, and there was much laughing during the movie and applause at the end.
It is a great twist on the Little Red Riding Hood story. Animation is subpar but humor was good. Best character was the hyperactive Squirrel voice by writer/director Cory Edwards who I never heard of before.
It was only 80 minutes which is a bonus with little kids. Mine are 8 & 5.

Rated PG for some mild action and thematic elements.
I just got home about an hour and a half ago from this film. I laughed myself sick–especially at Patrick Warburton’s portrayal of the Wolf. My kids all loved it, but the three year old sat and watched the whole thing without moving. This is something I’ve never seen her do before!
I loved it and would pay theater prices to see it again!
The animation is worthy of a kids computer game. (that is not praise). That said the movie overcame its primative Computer animation with a very funny and entertaining script.
If you have the ability to enjoy old Sci-Fi with hoeky special effects because the story was fun, try going to see this with the same attitude.
It really was a good moive. Way better than the last few kid’s movies I have been to. I wasn’t even going to see it until I read this thread. Hopefully word of mouth will help carry it.
I just saw it yesterday with my 9-year old son (and 15 of his friends–we had a birthday party movie bash). We had to take them to a G or PG movie, so it was either Hoodwinked or Glory Road.
Hoodwinked was actually pretty good. It got a lot of laughs from the kids, and my wife and I didn’t get the urge to claw our eyes out. It was a heck of lot better than many of the G/PG movies that come out. (Cheaper by the Dozen 2, I’m looking right at you!)
The script is definitely better than the animation. The best character was the bug-eyed chipmunk (?) which appeared to be ripped off from Ice Age.
The Laker jersey under a hooded sweatshirt, the background music when he’s telling his story, his being a reporter who goes undercover to break stories, the “interview” with the snack shop guy while wearing a neck brace (“spilled scalding hot coffee on my neck”), etc. Even his style of narration was very Fletch-like.
Slight Update:
Hoodwinked is still in the top 5 and has brought in $44.1M so far according to IMDB. The movie is making a profit and we might get a sequel.
Looks like Word of Mouth and the slow Jan/Feb time period is really working.
The IMDB rating is a solid 6.8 with 1202 votes in. (I gave it a 7)
I love that it’s doing well, and hope that it’s an even bigger hit on DVD. My husband and I went to see it at a late show and there were several other adults there and not a child in sight. We laughed and laughed. We want to see it again just because there are so many great lines.
“Gravity works”
The twist to the Little Red Riding Hood story is that it’s presented like a detective story, told Rashomon style (you see the story from each character’s point of view). Very clever. I especially loved Grandma’s pov. What a spry geezer!
I’d give it an 8, just because it’s so fun and intelligent. I can’t wait to get the DVD so I can read Twitchy’s subtitles.
We saw Nanny McPhee the same night we saw Hoodwinked and enjoyed it too. It wasn’t a night of just kidflicks. We often go out and see several films in a day. We decide which ones we both want to see (that night Hoodwinked and Nanny McPhee) then if we diverge on picks, we go our separate ways and meet up after. I saw Paradise Now while my husband, who wasn’t in the mood for a heavy drama, saw Annapolis. I daresay my pick was better than his.
Nanny McPhee was lightweight, but enjoyable and sweet. You won’t be clawing your eyes out.
