Gabe Kaplan has stated that he thought Ice Cube will be a great choice to play his character in a big-screen remake of his old 1970s TV series "Welcome Back, Kotter".





Right.





Can Ice Cube tell old Borscht Belt jokes to inner city kids?In South Central LA? Why would he want to?

When "Access" asks about his ideal cast, Kaplan, 60, jokes, "Well, I think Snoop Dogg will play Horshack, Vanilla Ice would play Barbarino... I don't know."

Demographically it makes sense, and I think Ice Cube is a good actor. So yeah, that'd be fine with me. But it means my dad (famously a doppleganger for Kaplan or, alternatively, Juan Epstien) will have to get a new haircut.

I think "Welcome Back, Cuber" might be a better title, actually. But remaking a TV show is even more ridiculous and unnecessary than remaking a movie. Why not just make a "Kotter" movie and let us ignore it?

If they're going to do it, though, can Dr. Dre play Principal Woodman?
