One band for all eternity

My first IMHO thread. woohoo. Ok, this is how it is. One band will be decidedupon to be the official world band. ALL other music will be banned. Not only you but the rest of humanity will have to listen to this band, or composer, or electronic artist, for the rest of your lives.
Who do you choose?
Your favorite band? You'll probably get tired of them pretty quick.
Someone who's written alot of songs? At least there would be some variety.
Think long and hard, your possible sanity depends on the answer.

For me?
The residents.
Why?
they have very interesting music, they have a wide variety of musicall styles, and I know that their music would drive 95% of the worlds population insane. It would give me some kind of sick satisfction watching everyone else forced into listening to them. They would finally get the apreciation they deserve, and of any band I can think of, they would alter popular culture more than anyone else.

Interesting question . . .

I am a die-hard Beatles fan, but I don't think that would do.

I love old seventies hard rock, like Zep, or AC/DC, but that wouldn't cut the mustard either.

Piano music gives me a thrill too, but too much Billy Joel and Joe Jackson wouldn't bode well either.

Hmmm . . . In the long run, for all the world to enjoy, I'd have to go with Bob Marley, even though we can't really expect anything new from him nowadays.

Wow . . . what a sad world that would be. The only artist I can think of that could provide the world with the rich tapestry of music it deserves is John Tesh.

maybe Andrew Loyd Webber, simply because of all the songs in all the musicals he's written, there has to at least one for everybody I would think.

By the way, I realize that most people (actually, almost all of the people here) are much older than I, and the event that I'm about to describe has a cance of 1 in a million of happening, but I'll say it anyways.

I'm gonna have to side with Landsknecht on this. Rush is the answer. Lots of albums and a fair amount of diversity. And the only band with 4 live albums to choose from, I think.

I guess the question has been on several minds.
And true it would be hard to live without Kraftwerk, but they wouldn't cause the general mayhem that the residents would cause. Imagine, we would have to pick a residents song as the natioinal anthem, they would have had to play one at the demo convention, on and on. Themesongs for TV would have to be snippets from the Residents. Ad jingles, residents. It would be glorious. MWAAHAHAHAHA.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is a really good pick, but the world would be very tame and boring that way compared to when the Residents take over.

I have a theme song- I mean, if I could choose to have a song playing, following me around wherever i went it would be The Sleeper, off of Resideux.
I claimed that as my theme song, my groove, long ago.

So how will this affect me and my theme song, when the world becomes RESIDED?

Our National anthemn should be Freak Show, but I guess that may be for another thread- although I doubt it will get many replies.

Anyone who votes for Andrew Lloyd Webber has no right to call other music crap. Webber had had a few good songs, but produced more mediocre music than any Broadway composer other than Steven Sondheim.

If there had to be one, the Beatles are the best choice as both performers and songwriters.

On songwriters alone, then George Gershwin is the obvious choice.

If I had my own personal favorite, it'd be the Bonzo Dog Band.

I would have to say some sort of classical music. Why? Well, certainly not because its my favorite...but it seems like the words in music is what would drive people crazy, and classical music doesnt have any words so that takes care of that problem. Also, think about it, if a composer was around for long enough, then he probably had a song for just about every mood. Whereas picking a 20th century band would most likely set some sort of general mood for the whole world and this couldnt be good...a big variety would keep everyone from getting stuck in a mood rut.

Oof. Okay, one band, for *all* the music in the world. Variety, breadth, and generally good.

I'd say the Beatles, but only if we could include their solo careers as well. Mondo variety (hepcat '60's rock, laid-back peace generation '60's rock, semi-hard-core early '70's rock, really lame techno-disco music (mostly MacCartney), '80's pop (again, Mr. MacCartney), and some decent early '90's stuff (mostly George Harrison- can we include the Traveling Wilburys as well?); add in a the few concetros written by Mr. MacCartney, and it's prolly the best we can do with one band.


Or I could just demand that we listen to BNL and laugh while the rest of you suffer.
