Sopranos: 4/23

This was a weird episode. Christopher and Artie have similar personality problems-- they don’t know when to shut up and leave people alone who clearly want them to go away.

I think the most insane moment of this week’s show was when Christopher punched Lauren Bacall in the face. Whoa. Did Kingsley realize it was them? Or was he trying to avoid them just because they were so damn annoying?

I’m sure I’ll have more to say about this later, but I’m not feeling too hot. Had to share my astonishment over Chris’ belting Ms. Bacall, though.

He had to. Look at how Chris kept pestering Ben Kingsley about the gifts. I’m sure the watches Chris and his sidekick were wearing was also a giveaway.

Single funniest moment so far this season. Almost “Pine Barrens” quality - that scene. I thought I was going to spit my drink.

Does Artie have a death wish or what?

VCNJ~

I was most amused by Tony’s reaction to Christopher’s “swag.”

I thought that this was a crappy episode in an otherwise fine season. The Lauren Becall thing was hilarious but that didn’t make up for it. After two stellar episodes, this was a disappointment. The previews look great though.

Interesting episode.

Kinda bothered by the fact that Little Carmine was so unaffected by Rusty’s death. Wasn’t Rusty his biggest supporter?

It looks like the Arabs are up to something and Chris is too stupid to see it.

Really fun episode. Sir Ben & Ms. Bacall were great.
I think Artie is attempting Suicide by Mafia. An interesting method. He did try to kill himself once before.
The dig at the very end about the weak dollar, Ironic considering how many decades those words were used by Americans about Italia. Any guess about what the Big Store on 57th street would be? I know its not Macy’s. Could be Hammacher Sclemmer.

Chris should stay as far away from Hollywood as he can, with his demons he can’t possibly handle being out there. Chris is such a complete Putz.

Nice scene with Artie at the end with the Rabbit, rediscover his joy for cooking.

I really enjoyed this one.

Oh, the line “It’s like a martini, but goes down real easy,” cracked me up. Did he really think he’d get away with that?

I think he knew exactly who they were, particularly after that intimidating elevator ride. Mugging Lauren Bacall was a stupid thing to do.

I liked the stuff with Artie. He was stuck in a rut with his cooking although he didn’t realize it, and his customers clearly were annoyed at his chattiness. So it was nice to see him return to his father’s recipes at the end.

Only a few of those guys have real interpersonal skills. Chris definitely doesn’t; he was clueless throughout the episode.

I thought ‘Sir Kingsley’ just avoided them because they were annoying. He didn’t seem to give them a long enough look to see they had the swag, and I didn’t see any evidence he knew that they’re mobbed up.

(Repisting what I said in the redundant thread)

Well that was kind of weird- an Artie-centric episode. Who knew that Artie could beat anyone’s ass, much less a wiseguy? It was good that somebody finally told him to shut up.

Loved the stuff with Chrissy and Ben Kingsley. I can’t believe they mugged Lauren Bacall. And Chris is off the wagon too, it looks like.

I was a little disappointed that there was nothing about the Vito storyline but it looks like that picks up ahain next week. There also seemed to be some teasers about AJ maybe getting into the business, but the previews are often deliberately misleading.

Artie’s rabbit recipe looked good.

I know this is fiction and all, but is rabbit that is not raised domestically safe to eat? I thought there was some sort of disease that they carried.

I was also cracking up at Chris punching Lauren Bacall. Hilarious.

And Ben Kingsley did one of the best readings of the word “fuck” I’ve ever seen after he saw Chris on the plane.

That’s what I was thinking. Last time he tried to beat someone up he wound up getting an earring ripped out. (An earring which wasn’t there in any previous episode).

Completely agree. Sir Ben just looked annoyed.

That was the largest wild Rabbit, I ever saw in NJ. I don’t know anything about wild rabbits being unsafe but it is possible.

The highlight was definately Bacall getting mugged. Though I don’t think Kingsley realized they were the two; he was just sick of annoyance that was Chris. It was kind of funny that most of the stuff in the basket was apparently tailored to a woman, and so the gifts Tony got weren’t exactly what Chris probably wanted to give him ;).

Interesting theory.

I’m wondering how the convo went down with Kingsley (I’m sorry, that should be “Sir Ben”) and Lauren Bacall. They mocked out those ridiculous gift packages that celebrities receive, which must mean that they themselves realize that the giveaways are excessive. Interesting.

Did David Chase says, “Ms. Bacall, we want Christopher to pop you one right in the kisser,” or did she say, “Hey, if I’m gonna be on the Sopranos, I want to get roughed up!” The whole idea is pretty hilarious. Makes me like Kingsley and Bacall even more than I already do.

As soon as he grabbed it, the first thing I thought was that there was no way there was $30k worth of merchendise in that and that most of it would be in (probably) unusable certificates.

(Tidbit for the day…S.W.A.G. stands for So What Another Giveaway. Forgot where I picked that up)

That’s a good point about the certificates in the gift bag. If Tony were stupid enough to try to use the one for the free trip to Australia, I’m sure it would be identified as the one that was in Lauren Bacall’s stolen bag.
