Who Doesn't Like Pie n Chips? - SDMB Poketroplis 3rd Quarter, 2006

Welcome Poker Hooligans to the start of another quarter of the ongoing saga known as “SDMB Poker” - No’Limit Texas Hold’em to be exact. A new quarter means we all start in first place…and last place…and thrid place…and well you get the picture. Any questions?

“What is SDMB Poker, GO?”

Good question. Every thrusday at 7 p.m Pacific time gang from the SDMB play a private game for the incredibly large buy-in of 10 cents plus 50 cent rake for the house. Over the course of the quarter we keep track of how you are doing and create standings that are slightly less computed by a formula slightly less complicated than the QB rating. The individual in first place gets a ton of admiration and thinly disguised ill feelings directed at them from the rest of the players.

“Where do you guys play, GO?”

We play online at Pokertropolis. You will need to download their software and set up an account. You might want to play some play money games to familiarize yourself with the interface.

“What about the money?”

What about it, huh!? Actually, you will need to fund your account prior to the start of the game. It is sometimes a pain, so try and get it done well in advance of the start fo the game if you hope to play. Using your credit card does not usually work, you generally have to send a check or bank transfer or use some other cash transfer service such as Neteller. You can also transfer money amongst players, so if you can arrange that you’re in like Flynn

“So if I get an account funded I can play?”

Almost! You need to contact Aholibah (check below for previous thread) and give her your Pokeertropolis name, I think your ID number, and your SDMB name. She can get you into the PRIVATE EXCLUSIVE SDMB POKER GAME. You might want to post to this very thread saying, “Fear me!” so we know to expect you.

“I dunno, I bet you guys are really, really, really, really, really, really, good.”

Oh we are, we are all universally fantastic poker players. Actually we do play a pretty strong level of play, I like to think. Most of the players play online in other tournaments. The aforementioned Aholibah even managed to win herself a seat at this year’s World Series of Poker. But the thing is, we weren’t all good to start, we got good and the SDMB Poker game was a large contributor to that factor. Where else can you play for cheap and fun and learn along the way?

“I’d love to play but I can’t make it every week, GO.”

No problem, you can play as often as you want and start playing anytime you want. You are still eligible for the grand admiration prize each quarter as long as you play three times in a quarter.

“I’m sold! Anything else I need to know?”

Two things, First, we like to chat on AIM during the game so if you want to join in the smack talk you should ook yourself up with one of those, ifyou haven’t already. Secondly, have fun and don’t be afraid to GO ALL IN.

Great, GO, it sound super and you are super for letting all of us know this. You’re the best!"

Yeah, well, what can I say… :wally

Link to last quarter’s thread, where you can relive, as it were nesta’s march to victory.

Hope to see you there!

And some of us have gotten much worse!

Thanks for starting the new quarter off, GO.

You may want to ask a Mod to edit the thread title … “Poketropolis” sounds like something from Porky’s.

Unless it’s like that on purpose. In which case, I’m all in!

Says the guy who knocked me out with a pair of threes.

Seriously, did you lose a single hand last week?

Going to try and revisit this little distraction tomorrow. See you there.

Sorry 'bout them 3’s

Yeah, I got slapped around a few times due to stupidity. You know, the kind of thing I should have learned if I was getting better. The end result was OK, but getting there was not quite a textbook example of good play.

I’m sure looking forward to carrying the momentum from the last 2 weeks into the new Q, but I came off winning the first Q to…suck dismally.

Also, a NEW (actually, revised) Kill Stat Table will be provided by me on a week by week basis along with GO’s Power Ranking Table. Who will be this quarter’s MF’r and Sneaky Bastard? Will Duke snatch the title of MF’r from me again this quarter? Will Nesta stay true to his sneaky ways and be the perpetual Bastard that he always is? Who will be the RUDEST and who will be the GRIMEST? Stay tuned and find out…

I’d like to win 3 out of every 13 tournaments I entered. If they could just drop me in at the final table, I’d be cruising

The hot/cold aspect tells me I’m not playing right, I just wish I could figure out why…

Hey, GO, nice job on the thread!

I wanted to let y’all know that at long last I know my start date for the WSOP. I will begin play on Saturday, July 29th. I’m still getting out there on the 27th, though, so I’ll have a little acclimating time.

Looks like I will be botting the start. Me and the fiance have a meeting with a florist at 6 o’clock and who knows how long it will take.

Damn, I’ll probably get my ass kicked by a bot again :smack:

I’ll try to keep your stack replentished while you’re away.

The signs of an engaged man:

A man with a girlfriend stops by a florist (or a grocery store or a gas station or a Costco), spends maybe five minutes looking at flowers, and then buys the most expensive bouqet he can afford.

A man with a fiance stops by a florist, spends untold amounts of Godless hours looking at flowers, and watches as they still choose the most expensive flowers that can be afforded (though hopefully her family is the one picking up the tab.)

A newly married man asserts that tonight is his sacred, undisturbable poker night, for he is MAN!

…yes, dear.

A new season at last. My goal this season is less sneaky, more bastard. Good luck everyone.

Tonight’s Results (7/6/06):

  1. Kyy
  2. Nesta (Kyy)
  3. Root Arm (Kyy)
  4. Dag (Nesta)
  5. MissN (Nesta)
  6. GO (Nesta)
  7. MissT (Nesta)
  8. Duck (GO)
  9. Oslo (Nesta)
  10. OMD (MissN)
  11. Asterion (GO)
  12. Defective Yeti (GO)

Holy shit, Kyy wound up taking out Nesta? Way to go, Kyy!

(Nothin’ personal, Nest…)

Pass the pie, I evidently don’t care for chips.

Squirrel pie, Duke.

What goes with chips? Fish you say?

I can’t gripe too much, 8th is way better than I finished about 75% of the time last Q.

Thanks, Nomer. It was close for a while, but I got a pretty good run of cards. It’s nice to win again after sucking so hard last quarter.
