The CBS Radio news feed is reporting an arrest in Thailand. No links yet.
Idle speculation – someone copped to this in Thailand to get out of Thai prison.
Link.
I think it’s a little more than someone trying to cop a false plea. It would take more than that to fly a guy back from Thailand. Some people might have a lot of apologizing to do to the Ramseys.
More idle speculation.
I seem to recall that a DNA sample was collected from her undies that did not match to any of the various persons of interest.
I also seem to recall that it was thought that the DNA might have been transfer from the manufacturing process (possibly some Asian country?), that other newly bought undies also had “unknown DNA.”
If anything meaningful comes of this, I’d be surprised.
I did not indicate whether I thought the plea was false or true, just that someone would use this to try to get out of Thai prison (aka Hell). Maybe they did it, maybe they didn’t. Evidently they knew enough to get someone’s attention. I doubt that the District Attorney in Colorado suddenly said, “Hey, we haven’t looked in Thailand, let’s go check there!”
Of course another possibility is that someone heard/overheard someone in a bar, and they notified the authorities.
Wow, that’s a surprise. I sure hope it’s not just another wild goose chase.
You’re right. I didn’t think they were smart enough to get away with it, or figuring out how to pin it on someone else. Sorry bout that.
I never really spent enough time thinking about it to decide if I was convinced it was the parents, but: the link I read doesn’t say who the suspect is. In theory the arrested person could be one of the parents, though it doesn’t seem likely.
At least to her father, anyway.
I don’t have my hopes up too high here, but it certainly would be great if they could catch the killer.
All the publicity in this case first revolved around the fact that Ramsey was a jr. beauty pageant participant and then around the notion that her folks had killed her. It was as if the real story, that a six-year old was kidnapped from her bed, tortured and murdered in her basement were almost beside the point.
Whoever did this most likely is someone who has done it other times as well. It sure didn’t seem like a first offense as the whole thing was pretty well planned out it would seem.
To him anyway, as Patsy died this year.
Didn’t the DNA come from a drop of blood though? I would think that would be pretty useful.
Wow, since Thailand sometimes = child sex, what if the parents pimped her out and a perv killed her by mistake??
That’s a completely bizarre take on the information so far. Wouldn’t an easier and more likely conclusion be that a perv killed her, and continued being a perv and so went to Thailand for much amore easily attainable outlet for his pervertedness?
There was a thread on here shortly after Mrs. Ramsey passed away discussing the case and how badly it was handled from the get-go. It’s encouraging to think that it’s not too late for some justice to be served.
CBS is now reporting that the suspect is an American second grade teacher.
That’s a disgusting assumption with absolutely no basis in any sort of fact. Seriously, go read ANYTHING on the Ramsey case before you embarass yourself further.
From Wikipedia:
On August 16, 2006, Reuters confirmed that federal agents arrested John Karr, an American citizen living in Thailand, after he confessed to the murder. Karr was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges. He is reportedly 41 years old and was at some point a second grade teacher.
Yahoo news says that he lived, at least at some point, in Conyers, Georgia.
Tabby
I’d fess up to murder in the good ole’ USA rather than spend time in a prison for littering in any other country.
From the multiple other threads going on I have gleaned: He lived in Atlanta the same time as the Ramseys
He is a suspect
He is keeping in touch with someone in Boulder via the internet
I predict this is a bunch of bullshit. He fessed up to get out of spending any time in a certain “worse than death” foreign prison system and sent back to the states to actually get trail where he stands a chance of getting off (no pun intended).
Unless he really did do it. In which case, he is STILL better off here than there.
Me? To the fridge!
From my reading, his confession contained details about the case that weren’t released to the public. That makes him either a really good guesser, or it makes him a confidant of the real killer, or it proves it’s him.
Probably while he was in Thailand he heard the whole story from Gary Glitter. I’m gonna wait to see what happens in the next few days and see if any charges are thrown at him.
This is the latest as of 03:38 EDT. My guess is that to be caught halfway around the world for this particular crime he must have some details that have been kept out of the media. As if the media has really been worried about any facts in this case…
But then again, that is just my guess.
How many threads are there on this now?
Nothing compared to how many there will probably be for the next few weeks…
