I’ve only been here for a little bit. I’m curious: has there been a thread-to-end-all-threads with regards to angry posting, swearing, personal attacks, and the like?

Search for BBQ Pit threads containing the words “memo” and “self”. As in “memo to self: do not ever do anything to piss off <membername>”
Best rant, maybe, but I don’t thing anything beats the meltdown regarding a dead kitten in terms of nastiness and vitriol from a huge number of Dopers pounding one of our own into a bloody quivering mass of frustration. Not my proudest moment as a Doper.
The woman sperm thread is probably among the nastiest in recent memory, but there a was also one where a long time member got upset and started using a 500 point font to express their displeasure. The latter is not the nastiest, but (IMO) was certainly among the most surprising.
In thinking about it, despite the fact that a mod passed muster on this thread (and I already posted to it), this may not be the most useful thread keep alive as it’s just going to roil up a lot of old hurt feelings that have been mostly put to bed.
Are you referring to the thread about the woman whose cats kept getting eaten by the neighbour’s dog? Cause that was the one I was thinking of in response to the OP, and in thinking about it, it made me think that this thread is not a particularly good idea, because that particular thread (and others like it) is - I think toxic is the best word to describe it. I won’t link to it, because it is something best forgotten rather than dug up to stink up this joint again.
