One shot that changed my mind.

I always considered Paul Newman to be a very handsome man, but not exactly someone I'd spend sleepless hours fantasizing about. That is, until I recently saw The Long, Hot Summer, for the first time. There's one shot of him, about 2 seconds long, that changed all that.

He's just moved into the mansion, and he's talking to Clara through her open bedroom window. He's dressed in nothing but white boxer shorts, and suddenly we see a frontal shot of him from the waist up. OMG, I never suspected that Newman had such a totally irresistible body. I wish the camera had stayed on him for a longer time (thank Og for "pause").

I wish I had a link, but I don't.

Have any of you ever suddenly appreciated an actor's sexuality, that you hadn't appreciated before, based on a single shot?

I became hooked on William Shatner from the shot of his entrance onto the "Kobiashi Maru" set in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan".

I still get goosebumps when I see that shot...

For me it was "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"...whoa.

I wasn't too impressed with Russell Crowe in "Proof of Life" till at the end when he was dressed in his tank top and camo pants for the attempted rescue. I don't like military stuff but I can't deny he ramped it up with that look.

I'll second that one. That was where she turned from "That little girl from Interview With a Vampire" to "Hot-TAY!"

But the biggest surprise for me was Gregory Peck. To me, he was that old guy - rather handsome in an old guy kinda way, but not gush worthy. And then, sweet rapturous day, I saw this picture. The man was perfection, sculpted and painted by God herself.

Oh yeah, Peck was hot! I even yearned to "console" him as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

As for Paul Newman, well, I've never seen a picture of his folks, but they must have passed along some damned good genes. I did see Paul's brother in a TV commericial, promoting Michigan's sesquicentennial. Sheesh, he was just about as good as his brother, and he also had those gorgeous blue eyes. Swoon.

I was flipping through the channels one day, and paused on an old movie. A car stopped, the door opened, and this gorgeous pair of legs appeared. The legs were followed by a fabulous ass, nicely outlined by a pair of shorts. I had not yet seen the woman's face.

The woman turned profile to the camera and it was Deborah Kerr .

Sure, I'd seen Deborah Kerr in From Here to Eternity but I didn't really notice her body. At that moment I found myself thinking, "Wow, she is smokin' hot!"

Christopher Walken in The Dead Zone, when he's with Brooke Adams at his dad's place -- the way he looks at her and smiles for just a second, when she starts to unbutton her sweater. I love Walken, but that's the one and only time I've thought of him as smokin' hot.

I was flipping through the channels one day and caught on an old version of Jane Eyre, and wondered who the rather ruggedly handsome man playing Mr. Rochester was. Imagine my shock to find it was Orson Welles! Eeep!

I love Jeremy Irons as an actor, but his cold-stiff-upper-lip-Brit demeanor kind of precludes fangirly gushing. Except for one scene in Damage. He's porking the always-stunning Juliette Binoche on the floor of a hotel room, hair hanging in his eyes, laughing and boyish. Swooooooooon...

Rilchiam, I'm with you on this one. Best. Sex. Scene. Evah. I read tha some of the crew members who were on the film set that day said the porking was not simulated.

Ditto like wow. I listen to the historic radio programs on NPR sometimes, and before I saw this movie, whenever Orson Welles was on, I used to think it was such a shame that man with such a gorgeous voice, looked so much like a bullfrog. But as Mr. Rochester? Not a bullfrog in sight.

My other pleasant surprise was Robert Redford in The Sting. He had been some old guy who might have been handsome once, but now he's an old guy who was definitely more than handsome. I told my mom that Robert Redford had been a hottie, and her response was pretty much, "Well, duh."
