People with hair: How much money would it take to get you to shave your head?

I look like crap with short hair (mine is about 2' long). I think I would shave it for $10K. You? Sex and age, please. (I'm 25, female.)

28, male, usually rocking the messy/spikey standard dude hair cut. I've done it before just for kicks so I'd be open to any offer someone would make me. My hair grows really fast, so even skin bald would be back in full effect within two months or so.

45, male, my hair's down to mid-shoulder in back. I'm growing it out to see how long it can get before my wife goes insane wondering if I'm gonna get fired for lookin' like a damn hippie. So, right now, it'd take several thousand dollars for me to shave my head.

Once my wife goes nuts, I'd do it for a couple hundred, probably.

I'd probably do it on a drunken man-bet, which would mean for free. But if sober, I'd probably do it for $20. I hate my hair as it is, it looks like utter crap and is completly un-styleable, but I'm pretty sure it looks better than bald, but I'm poor, and $20 is $20.

Oh, and 23 and male.

I'd shave it for as low as 500$, 'coz I'm a whore like that. I look like death warmed over with short hair though-- there's something about my colouring that makes it look like I'm under going chemotherapy when I have a buzzed/shaved head.

Seriously. People always seem to think I'm dying whenever I chop if all off. Mmm, cancer. I feel so sexy.

Probably $1000. I'm trying to grow it out right now, so it's pretty long (a few inches past the shoulders), but I need the money and I'm not that vain. I'd prefer it wait until summer, though, so I don't need to wear a hat or wig 24/7 to keep out the cold.

Female, 25.

36, male. Still mostly all there. Forehead has grown through the years, but still reasonably far from baldness territory.

I've actually shaved my head clean before, waaay back in high school before it was remotely cool for white guys to sport the Q-ball look as a means of defying male-pattern baldness. I found being able to rub my bare scalp endlessly entertaining. I found rubbing the fuzz that grew back equally engrossing. My head became more and more boring the longer my hair got. I'd gladly do it again for free...

Except that my wife would kill me. Now, he swears up and down she won't care in the slightest when what's up there eventually craps out on its own ("It's your eyes and your smile I love!"), but I once suggested getting a crew cut, and she forbade me from doing so. Strenuously. Like, "don't you DARE" kinda forbade. I don't pretend to understand it. I just obey.

So I'd love to take you up on the offer, but at the very least my marriage, and possibly my life, is at stake here. If my death could be faked somehow, a rather large offshore account established and funded, and you spirit me away to somwhere with a high female-to-male ratio (a commensurate bust-to-waist ratio is worth looking into, if you're feeling especially motivated) and great weather, I'd be willing to consider.

Male, 34. Shaved off and on for about 6 years now. I first did it for free it because my wife suggested it might look good (and it does, compared to the receeding hairline hippie look I had before) and I like to make her happy.

I guess I should mention I wasn't a high-school neo-Nazi. I was on the swim team, and for state championships, it was the custom for all the kids to shave their heads. Part solidarity, part fluid dynamics.

Male and 22 at the time.

$20 if I'm drunk. I know this from experience. Turned out to be kind of a bad thing. At the time I had a goatee long enough to braid. Couple that with a shaved head and tattoos and people tend to get the wrong idea about you. A black guy that I worked with was sincerely concerned when I showed up for work.

I was the best man in my friend's wedding less than a month after the incident. My hair grows fairly fast, but I didn't have enough to really do much with but the time I put on the tux.

Completely shaved? Maybe $500. Like others have mentioned, I look terrible with really short hair, plus right now it's covering my psoriasis. So to counteract the embarrassment I'd feel at people seeing the scaliness of my scalp, I'd need 500 clams. Ironically though, shaving it would probably help the psoriasis.

Also, I have a weird flat spot in the back of my head, like from 10 to 11 o'clock if you looked at me in profile. From my right side. So I like to keep that hidden.

I dunno, make an offer! I have long (top of ass-crack) hair that's naturally mousey blonde on top and hennaed reddish starting about at my ears. On May 20something 2005, it was cut to just touching my shoulders (donated to Locks of Love - 16 inches cut for two donations). So, obviously, my hair grows pretty quickly. I'd cut it short again in a heartbeat for a good cause. Shaving bald would give me slightly more pause (mostly 'cause bald fat women =/= sexy), but it wouldn't take much of an incentive.

A significant amount. $500 sounds lowish for me, at this point in my life.

Female, 31, with bumps on my head which I do not want to make the centerpiece of every conversation I have with people until the bumps get hidden by my naturally wavy hair again.

21, female. Not sure, but it would take a lot, as 1) I'm generally hard to bribe and 2) I look terrible with short hair, and it would take a couple years for my hair to get back to a reasonable length. You'd need to offer enough that I could live confortably off it for a good amount of time. About a million might do it.

I'm overjoyed that I still have a full head of hair with very, very few greys. One would have to offer at least mid 5 figures before I contemplate losing it - at this stage, I can't be sure it will grow back.

My hair takes so very long to grow. It was chin length 4 years ago. It is barely to my shoulder blades now. It would have to be a lot of money for me to shave my head. I'm thinking someone would have to make me debt-free (including mortage) in order for me to shave it all off. (Oh, but if I was on TAR and it was the FF, I would do it.)

I'm 37, female, married.

Ditto, except I'm 22. I have a couple of raised scars on my head from chicken pox, and my head's small to begin with, so I imagine I'd look horribly misproportioned if I shaved my head. Not at all like Sinead O'Connor, which is kind of a drag.

I'd probably do it for enough money to pay off a couple years of my college debt, which I gather is rather a bit more than other people want.

$500 I'd say, but I'd try to milk it for more

1. I work at home. It's rare that people even see my FACE sometimes.
2. My hair is thick and healthy. If it's anything like my leg hair it'll be back within hours of shaving.
3. I am really friggin' poor right now and would do pretty much anything for money.

22, female, and probably nothing. I've shaved my head before out of pure comfort, and let me tell you - it was the most comfortable hairstyle ever. I didn't need conditioner, I didn't have to brush it, I didn't have to style it, I didn't need to worry about how it looked.

But I'd do it for a charity or something just for shits and giggles, because I don't care what people think about me with a shaved head. In fact, maybe I'll shave my head to raise money for Toys for Tots this winter or something.

Currently my hair is in winter mode, meaning that I have not cut it since July. College experience has taught me that the fro is quite good at combating Pittsburgh winter. Still, I usually cut it skin tight in the summer. I would shave my head for about $45. That price is negotiable since I am broke. 22 year old male talking.

Wow. Is your hair really long and slow growing or something? I think that makes a difference. This is the first time I've tried to grow my hair out since my teens, and it's coming in at the rate of around an inch a month, which I gather is quite fast.

Also, for people who have donated to Locks of Love, do they take color treated hair? Because that's something I'll probably do when/if it gets long enough to donate, but I dye mine every three months or so, with permanent dyes I find on the shelf. I've heard they don't take treated hair but I didn't know if that just meant bleach or something.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention - my hair doesn't grow back super-fast, but it's not slow either, and at the moment it's mid-back and super thick.

Male, 20. I have sorta long hair, that I've been growing for more than 6 months, and I imagine I would look pretty bad with my head shaved, so probably a few thousand bucks. I had a buzz cut when I was a kid and remember how much of a pain it was to grow back out.

Yes, they take color treated hair, but not bleached or color damaged hair. It needs to be at least 10 inches long to go to the kids*, and cut off in a ponytail, not a bunch of loose strands swept off the floor.
Donation guidelines.

*At the time I did it, 8 inches was acceptable, but would be sold to wigmakers to raise funds for LoL. 10 inches is required for the kids' wigs, because most of them want long hair wigs. Their site is being very slow right now, so I can't see if that's still the case.

Hmmmm Dunno. I've got really long hair. But my house also has a cracked foundation. And with my luck, I'd have like scalp psoriasis. I'd do it for a couple of thousand and a soft, velvet lined, PURPLE hat.

I've usually worn long hair and prefer it that way, and so does my BF, but I think I'd do it for as little as $2500. Waaaay back in my younger poorer days, I chopped it short and sold it to a wig shop, and also donated substantial amounts to Locks of Love twice, but never anything shorter than a ear-level bob.

Shaving would be very interesting. I felt okay with short hair before because mine's thick and wavy and still moves, completely bald and swing-free is likely to be horrifically unflattering but weirdly fascinating. I'd never have the cajones to do it just for a bet, but if there was money involved....yeah, it grows quickly anyway.

For cash for me? Probably $5k+ (I'm ok financially, and dang, it gets cold in Minnesota)
On the other hand, you could probably convince to do it to raise money for cancer research (or something like that) for less.
As a sign of solidarity for a friend going through chemo? I'd do it for free in a heartbeat. (It hasn't come up yet, but my friends and I are all getting to that age.)

No (just to my shoulders) and yes (ridiculously so). Plus, as I mentioned, I'm single, and WhyNot's "bald fat women =/= sexy" equation is totally true. I'd have to wear a wig at the start anyway, because I work in a professional setting, but I imagine that it would become uncomfortable and ill-fitting when the hair started growing back, and I do not like myself with short hair.

I've shaved my head a few times when I was younger, and for a couple of years kept the bottom half shaved while the top half grew.

I have thick hair that grows fast. And I hate the feeling of hair on my skin.

Considering that I pay someone close to $200 nowadays to cut (and color and/or style) my hair, I think I'd have to ask for about $800-$1000. Although I suppose if the mood really struck me, I'd do it just for the hell of it.

I did it for free (actually for charity) for the St. Baldrick’s Organization , a group that collects money to help kids with cancer. People donate money to sponsor you and you get shaved at the event. This past St. Patrick’s Day, our town did it with the police and fire departments and local scout troops along with individuals joining in. Some local barbers and hairstylists volunteered their time and equipment, the local skating rink gave the place, local restaurants donated food and local companies donated door prizes. I collected $500 and was shaved bald. It had been 20 years since I had been shaved for the Army and it felt great to be doing it for a terrific cause.

If the $$ was going to me I wouldn't bother. I suppose I could give the $$ to charity, but I could just do that anyway and keep my hair...

Well it would depend if I get to wear a wig. If not, I wouldn't shave my head for less than $100,000 so better bribe some of the others on this board that will do it a hell of a lot cheaper. If I get to wear a wig, probably $50,000.

My hair is chin length and I'd shave it in a heartbeat and wear one of those chemo turbans if only somebody in my town would do one of those shave-your-head for charity events.

I've been having my hair dyed honey brown with blonde highlights for years now, and it's expensive, $200 per month. My real hair is coming in at the roots a pretty shade of silver. My mother had lovely silvery hair that was much admired and I'd love to show the world my true color but I'd have to put up with brown ends and silver roots for months while the dye grows out and the real color grows in. Not wanting to be piebald, I trudge to the hairdresser every month and waste three hours and a big bucks.

I'd go for pretty damned cheap. Hell, if the mood strikes I might even pay someone else to do it for me (although I've got my own set of clippers).

I used to keep half my head shaved, with corn rows/braids on top. I just chopped off 14" a few weeks ago. For the most part, my hair grows fairly quickly. I think most people put far too much thought/effort/value in their hair and how it looks. I don't understand spending hundreds of dollars at a salon. I think the most I've ever spent to have someone else work on my hair was around $30.
