Help with next tattoo

So I’m ready for my next tattoo in the next few months.

I want to add to this one

My thoughts are some sort of band around it (NOT a collar/leash). The only way I can think to describe what I’m looking for is a “tribal band,” but I’m not looking for something as trendy as the tribal thing right now. As much as I like tribal bands, I’m not looking for something everyone else has. But I am looking for something sort of band to go around it. BTW, I know it’s kinda hard to tell, but that’s my forearm in the picture, (my elbow is at the top). My breif viewing of BMEzine didn’t show much in the way of bands. Anyone have any good ideas?

Sorry if that’s incoherent, if it doesn’t make sense, let me know and I’ll clarify the best I can.

Well, here’s some different types of choke collars for dogs. There’s also show collars (see page 2 for snake collars).

Those are my best suggestions for patterns to go with your dog theme.

Just wanted to say that’s the first schnauzer tattoo I’ve ever seen. Props for doing your own thing!

I see two obvious choices:

Either a chain going from the neck of the dog around your arm (my choice) or an extension of the dog’s tongue going around your arm in an abstract way.

Personally, I think a new tattoo should be retro - an anchor or an eagle or something from the 50’s…

I really appreciate you not calling it a Scottie.

The neat thing about it is that it looks exactly like one of my dogs, and if I stretch it wider it looks exactly like the other one.

Talk with your artist. He may be able to come up with something suitable. Another idea is to look at stationary stores or clip art for stationary - there are designs that can be nicely adapted for tattoos.

Gag.

What purpose does this serve, exactly?

I also recommend asking an artist you trust.

Care to elaborate?
If that’s a comment on the tattoo, you can go bugger off as I really don’t want to hear it.

Great Tatoo! He did a great job with the schnauser, it really captures their expression.

If you want my honest opinion, I think I’d just leave it alone. It’s very simple and unique and a band might take away from the simplicity of the lines.

How could anybody think that was a Scottie. My first thought was I hope it’s a Giant. Miniature owners should not get tattoos.

What is it about tattoos that makes people lose all their manners?

No, I have to Mini’s.

Funny thing about Schnauzers though, when I tell someone I have a Mini Schnauzer about 50% of the time they tell me they’ve never seen one. More then likely they’ve never seen a giant/standard and they’re thinking a mini is more like a toy.

And just to show off a bit here she is, well one of them anyways.

Your right, it’s rare to see a Giant Schnauzer, although I see a beautiful one at the dog park.

I have a Westie, and was thinking of getting a Schnauzer like yours. They seem like great dogs. My friends Schnauzer is so smart!

I’m inclined to agree with Caridwen. I’d be very hesitant to add a band to that design – it looks complete to me as-is. Of course, part of that attitude is probably that most of the bands I see are tribal, Celtic, or punk (chains, barbed wire, etc.). I’d have a hard time coming up with anything that would work well with a dog and not be too cutesy (trail of biscuits, etc.).

Unfortunately, none of the aforementioned does anything to help with suggestions. Maybe you could try something simple and geometric and sketch it on with marker to see how it looks? I’m thinking either thick straight bands on the outside with a thinner line or lines inside. Or maybe an alternating over/under rectangular pattern – I’m not describing it well, but it would be like continuous alternating square bracets placed on their sides.

A realistic tattoo of a gag would be really hard to do, and facial tattoos are often inadvisable at any rate. I’d be much more inclined to just put a sock in it.

My psychiatrist has one. That dog is a pistol!

Excellent!
