Sans abuse, any chance of increasing the time limit on Edits?

While I love the new editing feature, even five minutes isn’t enough at times, as this link indicates.

Has their been any abuse of the system yet? If not, and if that continues to be the status quo, may I suggest extending the time limit? I know there have been times when I discovered a mistake 10 or 15 minutes down the line that I’d like to correct.

“Has there been any abuse of the system yet?”
“How about now?”
“Now?”

C’mon, the new system and edit privilege have been in place for, what, two days? And it’s been a weekend, when usage is generally slow. Can you let us we take one step at a time, please?

[sub]Sorry if I sound snarky, I’ve been grading papers all day. MBA students, and they can’t spell or construct a sentence, let alone a paragraph and logical thought.[/sub]
[sub]Oh, well, if someone accuses me of sounding snarky, I’ll just edit it out.[/sub]

Well, I was merely posted a hypothetical, hence the “status quo” comment.

Well, you know, sometimes 10 minutes isn’t long enough to notice a typo or other error, either. They’ve got to draw the line somewhere, you know…

Technically, they don’t have to draw a line anywhere, and on the flip side, it could be shorter as well.

I think it’s a misplaced and antiquated concern anyway, given the numerous forums I’ve frequented in recent years, editing of posts have never been a problem.

Antiquated? I don’t get that.

I don’t think it’s entirely misplaced though, at least with regard to an unlimited edit time. Have you never seen a poster get all pissed off and go back and erase all of their posts out of spite? I’ve seen it on at least a couple boards.

Hey, I’m happy to have any editing. I’d settle for two minutes. Five minutes is an eternity!

One forum I used to dabble on had unlimited editing, and while I never saw it used nefariously, it did sometimes make a mess of things: When one poster would edit his post to “clarify” it, the main result was that susequent posts replying to the original were rendered nonsensical. And once, on this board, I saw someone do something equivalent to making an inflammatory post and then editing it into something innocuous after the angry replies came in (no, I won’t say how he did it, even though it was quickly detectable by the mods and got him banned). So it is at least a legitimate concern.

I think ten might be better, given the frequent time outs on the server around here.

But over all, I’m happy.

ETA: Yep, still happy.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Given the concern over manipulative editing by the mods, I feel damn lucky to have a five minute window.

How about now?

You so funny.

Jerry is still sorting things out on the new server. All this is going to take some time. I wouldn’t have any expectations for changes in the immediate future.

Preview is your fiend.
