Everquest players (or former players) I have a question.

After getting a little bored with Guild Wars and Anarchy Online I signed up for Everquest last night.

I went through the tutorial last night and I am getting the hang of it (it's quite different from GW). But, I have a question on targeting. I play in 3rd person view (I don't like 1st person view, I find it disorienting for some reason). Every time I try to target a mob (or loot a corpse) it becomes this big project because I always end up targeting myself. Right now it's more annoying than dangerous because the mobs aren't coming after me, but soon I can see myself spending a whole lot of time dead because something killed me because I couldn't get it targeted in time. In Guild Wars there were several keys, one to target closest, one to cycle through all nearby mobs, one to target a called target. But there doesn't seem to be anything like that in EQ.

Is there any way to target mobs other than clicking on them?

It's been years since I played EQ, but try the Tab key, that seems to be a common key for such things. Alternately, look for some kind of options menu where you can check out key mapping or the interface - there should be some selection for "target enemy" there.

Heh one of the hallmarks of EQ, at least for me playing in first person, was how much ridiculously easier it was to target things (with the mouse) in general than most of the games that have come since.

I want to say that F8 was the default bind for "target nearest mob", but not completely sure. It's definitely a bindable key though.

D'oh, right, F8. F7 was yourself, and F1-F6 your party members in order, IIRC?

And F8 it is!

Thank you both so much.
